WASHINGTON Former Secretary of State Alexander Haig, who served Republican presidents and ran for the office himself, has died.

stank to high heaven of coup d'etat.
poor choice of words I suspect....but maybe not. I don't know.
I don't think you are defending the press, but it does seem that you have bought into the spin that they always use to destroy a person with whom they dislike. General Haig was simply doing what Generals do. He tried to reassure a stunned American public that things were under control and not to panic. Unfortunately he was a General with a "stiff personality" - not a politician who knows how to sneak around problems. The liberal gas bags in the media have no understanding of Generals, but they do know how to slander political weaknesses. This was a complete "non issue" spoken by a person with zero personality, and the liberal press ran with it like Lucifer was coming to town.
Thank you General Haig.
Asked what he thinks now his famous pronouncement that he was in control?, Haig says:
I dont worry about the midgets. Only the Beltway gang gives a hoot about it. The rest of the world, as I told you, was reassured. Ive been through a number of national crises and a number of presidencies from Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis to war in the field and that Cabinet and that White House performed very, very well that day. There was no panic.
Does he have any regrets?
No. Maybe if I had had a shotgun, I might have disposed of a few subsequent problems but I didnt have one,
A great man led a great life. Prayers of comfort for his family and friends.
The kids now in school need the old “Current Events” discussed in class, instead of “current trends” so they can understand the many interesting things that are happening and relate it to the past. Unfortunately, we would have to trust the NEA to provide the facts...God help us!
Correction: he was treated shamefully by the [LIBERAL-LEFT, HEAD UP THEIR COLLECTIVE, COMMUNIST-SYMPATHIZING, BUTTS] press.
bump
No wonder our country is in the state it is.
that puts it in perspectve...how low can we go.
RIP SIR.
Rest in peace General.
Gee, if I had only known he didn't have a shotgun, I would have gladly given him one.
If she said it in the same context, no we wouldn't!
Simple minds sometime don't grasp the proper meaning of things said. He was referring to the immediate situation, not the country!!
I vounteered for him in 1988, but he withdrew before I could do anything.
Great man. Had his ups and downs, but loved and served his country.
His foolish remark is not nearly as stupid as yours. He misspoke. You are just a fool.
That about says it all right there.
RIP
Thanks for the info. I didn’t know that. F’nn press. But that was all there was back in the 80’s.
“Fire away.”
To whom, the vice-president (who isn’t there) or the Gen. Haig (who is there).... wait, wouldn’t that mean he is in charge of the situation room at THAT time.
“The United States is in very capable hands. Our vice-president, GHWB, has assumed his constitutional duties and is on the job.”
By the way this is drivel, give meaningful information ABOUT the vice-president, which should be done after he takes control of the room. Do you know anything besides that statement. By the way answering questions from the press is down the list of his duties/responsibilities at this time.
I don’t think you have any concept about what was going on, at that time, beyond the words that you and the media latched onto. Sad, Larry, Just sad. Good day.
RIP soldier.
And for that alone Gen Haig will hear “Well done good and faithful servant”.
Well said. Hi Leni!
