If Christie has any guts he’ll appoint Steve Forbes to take his seat.

Lautenberg is the poster child for term limits if ever I saw one. These loony left old geezers are worse than the politburo of the Soviet Union.

He sure is. And he is selfish too. He has had his day now let somebody else have a chance. IMO I don't see how he has been doing his job. Term limits are needed without a doubt. If he is on chemo at his age I wonder how he can serve his term & run again....I watched my dad on it & he was younger & it took quite a toll on him.

Step down? LOL.. Most of them realize they have a job for life since we don't have TERM LIMITS!

The old goat doesn't want to give up the Perks either.

It's sickening to see men who should be pushing up daisies still bleeding the taxpayer for simply casting a vote.

But there is no one else in the whole state of New Jersey who has the qualifications to hold that position for he is enlightened.

I wish anyone with cancer successful treatment. Lautenberg who is a multi-millionaire can afford the best.

Where there's life, there's hope.

What a lovely sentiment.

TREATABLE doesn’t mean CURABLE. It means they can provide some relief of symptoms and perhaps delay the course of the disease for at least a short period. The radiation oncologist I transcribe uses that phrase a lot with terminal patients - “emphasizing they had treatable but not curable disease.”

Watching him as a Senator over all these terms, I get the impression that being in the Senate is what he enjoys. He came out of retirement to get appointed, and chose to run again, saying it made him feel alive.

Apparently he’s one of those seniors who enjoy making a big stink in the world. Sitting on a porch would drive the guy crazy. Lautenberg will probably collapse on the Senate floor and be carted off with his boots one.

The Lautenberg for Torricelli swap engendered some of the most incredible twisting of logic by the N.J. Supremes. The deadline for replacement had passed by about a month, so they weren’t able to use any “it got lost in the mail” type of excuses. Their opinion was based on the notion that, with the Torch gone, “N.J. voters would not have a fair choice.” This, despite the fact that there was a third-party candidate on the ballot. Hey, the voters had a choice in the primaries, and Torricelli was the one they had chosen. He wasn’t dead or incapacitated—just unpopular, due to his own corruption.

What do you suppose the N.J. Supremes would have done if an unpopular republican had begged out of the race after the deadline?

How come nobody is mentioning how he weaseled his way back in after he was out when the torch was about to get beat?

How come you didn't read my post #48 before you commented with #62? :)

Wait, I thought he fell, or had an ulcer. Now it is “curable” stomach cancer. Hmmm ...

He was probably diagnosed under the Obama Care plan . . .

From Lautenberg's office:

After several days of hospitalization and testing, Senator Lautenberg's doctors have diagnosed that he has a B-Cell Lymphoma of the stomach. This is a curable tumor, and will require treatment over the next few months. The Senator is under the care of Dr. James F. Holland and Dr. Martin Goldman of Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Statement from Dr. Holland:

We expect a full and complete recovery for Senator Lautenberg. The Senator will be treated with chemotherapy administered approximately every three weeks. We anticipate that he will receive between six and eight treatments, and in between treatments, the Senator is expected to be back at work in the Senate.

That would be entertaining, to say the least.
