McALLEN Local authorities are on alert about a potential outbreak of violence anticipated in Reynosa.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño said he received word from an "official intelligence source" that the Mexican army has a middle school surrounded and that they believe three or four black SUVs carrying Sinaloa Cartel members has entered Reynosa.
"I've contacted my command staff and had all their people placed on heightened alert," the sheriff said.
No official bulletin or word from Mexican authorities about violence in Reynosa has been released. All international bridges remain open.
Treviño said he is "ready to implement our contingency plan" should U.S. Customs and Border Protection or any other agency requests their assistance.
"I've got my three SWAT teams that have been put on call out basis ready to go," Treviño said.
Witnesses in Reynosa reported parents picking up their children early from school and several businesses closing early. Troops were seen near the Puerta del Sol colonia on the south side of the city, where a battle between the army and suspected cartel members broke out last week, killing at least six people.

Next time you fly to see your Mom, see if it doesn’t cost too much to go to Windsor, you picked the wrong time to fly into and out of Detroit.

I live a few miles from Swinney Switch. I went to Reynosa a couple of years back with a business associate to eat cabrito at a very nice restaurant. Wouldn’t cross the border anywhere now. I’ve got some friends who go across all the time (including Nuevo Laredo) and swear there’s no danger. When I’m in the Rio Grande Valley I always make sure I have my concealed pistole on me and an extra one in the car.
I noticed the other two haven’t replied....
Tell me.

I saw something about someone called “fanfan” on an underground intelligence board I frequent. Lotta eyeballs on that one.
They talking about you? (you don’t have to answer if it’ll compromise your position)
I outed you, FanFan. It was either that, or they said that Canada was taking back the Upper Penninsula...I HAD NO CHOICE! My fishin’ hole was at stake!!!
Please forgive me. *SNIF*
It wouldnt be too difficult to hit UTEP buildings from Mexico. Maybe 800 yards?
Dam it where is the U.S. army! Theses cartels are heavily armed, and if they get pushed over to our-side of the border there could be a lot of American blood shed.
When there is a war going on in Northern Mexico, the U.S. army should be on the southern border to make dam sure it stays in Mexico!
Lies, all lies. ;-)
They threatened your fishin hole?
B@st3rds!
Protecting the US borders is one of the few things the Federal government is constitutionally assigned to do. Therefore, it does not do it.
I’d hate to be in the militia trying to handle the logistics of operating modern main battle tanks and attach helicopters.
What about handling the logistics of incoming aircraft
from a card table like in Haiti? It can be done!
