As authorities searched for clues into what could have sent a University of Alabama neurobiology professor on an alleged killing spree, friends and family yesterday described Braintree native Amy Bishop as an awkward introvert on the brink of losing her teaching job.
Bishops husband, James Anderson, told the Herald his wife had been fighting the university for over a year about a tenure denial, and several months ago received a final decision. She was upset, but not overly emotional, approaching her appeal like a game of chess, he said.
Police in Huntsville, Ala., charged Bishop, 44, with capital murder after she allegedly opened fire on six colleagues at a faculty meeting Friday, killing three. Afterward, she calmly called her husband and asked him to pick her up as if nothing had happened, said police Chief Henry Reyes.
She was an oddball - just not very sociable, said Sylvia Fluckiger, a former lab technician who worked with Bishop in 1993.
Bishop acknowledged at the time being questioned in the bombing attempt of a Harvard medical doctor evaluating her on doctorate work, a professor with whom Bishop was known to quarrel, Fluckiger said.
Reyes confirmed he is working with the FBI to learn more about why Bishop was a suspect in the attempted bombing of Dr. Paul Rosenberg, who received a double-pipe bomb in the mail on Dec. 19, 1993. He ran from his Newton home with his wife, escaping without injury. The bomb never exploded.
She was quite cavalier about it, Fluckiger said of Bishops description of her interview with police. She said Bishop grinned as she described being asked by cops whether shed ever taken stamps off an envelope and fastened them onto something else. I cannot tell you what the grin meant, Fluckiger said.

“Oddball”? How about total raving lunatic nutcase?
I don’t think her husband is innocent in all this, though he’s doing his best to try to make it look that way.
And, as camouflage, they have convinced a lot of people that Conservatives are bloodthirsty lunatics, despite a remarkable lack of evidence for such an assertion.
I was curious too so I looked it up...it's German/Swiss.
Since when do you shoot the king the knight after you get rooked???
Are her victims only allegedly dead?
Exactly. A bona fide nut job.
Exactly, right now it’s abortion in this country, but, soon, who knows. They will always start with the most defenseless and work there way up. Next, terminally ill, elderly, the learning disabled.
Same issue with the Fort Hood shooter. Police officers shot him to stop the rampage, and now he is the “alleged” shooter. BS BS BS BS

It’ll be interesting to see where she got the gun she used.
Just another fanatical Obamunist gone over the edge.
BINGO! I've read repeated threads about this guy talking his head off about her. And much of what he's said publicly points toward premeditation. It sure appears he's distancing himself at her expense, which makes me wonder what his involvement was. The money quote for me was, when asked if he's standing by her, he replied "For now".
But but but but...we must send them all to the Reich’s Mercy Center so that our society will be in Ordnung and we can truly create our Master Race!

“Good grief. Alleged??”
You know how those guns just start shooting people on their own. She didn’t even pull the trigger.
If they ever determine that. The husband has publicly stated two different stories about a gun:
One, they rented a gun when going shooting at a gun range (which doesn't answer the question of where she got the gun she used, does it).
Two, she had a gun, he asked her where she got it but received no answer. He told her he didn't want one in the house with the children. But she said she felt like she had been 'followed' and wanted protection. He offered to pick her up when she worked evenings. Supposedly, this was the gun they took to the shooting range (and which she apparently used).
Personally, I'd be taking a close look at the husband about this gun. But then I don't know what the police have discovered so that's just speculation. In any event, I have my suspicions about his involvement.
