Rhode Island Democratic Rep. Patrick Kennedy, the last member of his illustrious family currently serving in Congress, will announce on Friday that he is retiring, according to Democratic insiders.
Kennedy, 42, was first elected to Congress in 1994. He did a stint as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in the 1999-2000 cycle but has not served in the House Democratic leadership beyond that.
His congressional tenure was marked by repeated substance abuse problems, including a drunk-driving incident in 2006. He entered a rehab facility at that time and again in 2009.
Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.), the congressman's father, passed away last year. Democrats unexpectedly lost his seat last month to Republican Scott Brown.

There are two Udalls though: same thing.
Trees, fire hydrants, and pedestrians are gonna be safer, soon.
Another “Drunk Kennedy” (why not create a band of that name - the “Drunk Kennedys”?) is off the streets of America.
Took too damned long to get rid of that cursed family - most of whom were a plague on the body politique.
To the good Kennedys, sorry for the fu*k-ups in your family who wrecked it. They made a mess for everyone.
Don’t let the door hit you in the a** on the way out !
Patrick Kennedy (D-RInker)
It’s kind of a shame. Patches was an easy political target - probably much more so than whoever the Dems come up with to replace him.
Now who will Howie Carr make fun of, Patches was the best for humor.
Ha ha ha
ROFLOL!!! Guess his attack on Scott Brown backfired!
Illustrious family? Are they joking?
Ah!
They must have read the Swimmers will!
Patches now realizes that he will not have to work one day for real wages for any day of his life from birth to death.
He decided, “Why continue to put up with the sham that I ever gave a rats ass for the people of Rhode Island”
“Oh, pool boy, bring over more champagne here for my ho!”
"It's only a model."
He’s got the brains to lead the Empire!
It just keeps getting better and better.
A February 2010 poll commissioned by WPRI TV 12 in Providence indicated Kennedy's support was weak entering his expected re-election campaign. The poll indicated that 56% of 1st District voters viewed him unfavorably and only 35% said they would vote to re-elect Kennedy.
CNN Candy Crowley reporting it like he just croaked.
I think Patches must have read the TEA (Party) leaves and decided to avoid rejection....LOL
The Dems are no longer READING the POLLS. They’re being IMPALED ON THEM.
To borrow a phrase from the late, great Jackie Gleason: “How SWEET IT IS!”
A few more of these and they’ll have to put Pelosi on a suicide watch. Might I suggest Stevie Wonder?
:-))
Camelrot is no more!!!
“How many are there left in office now, anyway?”
Just Patrick. When he’s out there will be none.
