LAKE WORTH, Fla. (NBC) -- A Florida family's Golden Retriever is being called a canine hero, while the family's cat should probably be sent to the "dog house."

Bubba, the retriever, started barking when flames erupted inside the Lake Worth duplex just before midnight.

It started in the front portion of the home, where Saundra Frazer had fallen asleep.

Charles McCauley, who lives in the back of the home with his girlfriend, also heard the barking and came running into the front room where he saw Saundra trying to extinguish the flames with a blanket.

We were told she was a Chihuahua mix when we got her from the pound, but she does look like similar to a rat terrier so I'm not really sure of her lineage.

A friend left her toaster plugged in and her cats in the house and the results weren't pretty.

All I’m sayin is, MY dog would have EATEN that candle. Even faster if it had landed in the cat’s litter box.

If the cat knocked over the candle, a REAL canine hero would have lifted his leg & put it out before it got out of hand.

Well she didn't need a dog for that, she had a live-in boyfriend in the back room, full of beer.

Ewww, my dogs do that, too. Plus horse poo. They gross me out but I try to think it’s just microbiotics.

Considering how dogs have that fantastic powerful sense of smell, it’s quite a mystery why so many of them vacuum up cat droppings.

"The occupants believe the fire may have started when the family cat knocked over a burning candle."

I'm still trying to figure out how the cat got the candle lit.

A cutie.

My experience is that the Animal Control guys have no idea what breed a dog is. I've heard some OUTRAGEOUS guesses from them. When we were rounding up a stray Chow Chow in our neighborhood, using my purebred if slightly undersized Chocolate Lab as the 'honey trap', one of the AC guys asked me, "Is that a Pit Bull with uncut ears?"

???!!!!???

>>> “The terrible thing is that the cat probably knew exactly what it was doing.”

If the car was found rolled out of the garage & full of the household’s canned catfood supply ...

Well, there ya go.
