MSNBCs Chris Matthews is never one to let the facts get in the way of race-baiting. According to Matthews and Tuesdays Hardball guests partisan shills, constitutionally guaranteed states rights are now racist!
< snip >
Matthews built his strawman argument, jumping from John Calhoun to Jim Crow, as he equated nullification and interposition to equal rights. Equating the succession movement to the equal rights movement is just nonsensical, Chris. Just because people have used these words doesnt undermine the validity of the concepts presently at hand.
You could almost feel the terror when guest, Wayne Slater of the Dallas Morning News, described the fright stump talk about the 10th Amendment and state rights gives the Left,
Kind of gives you a shiver because that phrase is obviously freighted from the civil rights movement. To ignore the nativist racial aspect of this is to ignore the reality of the success and appeal of this pitch to a conservative Republican primary constituency.

There are good things about state’s rights like for example, deciding our own gun laws, whether motorcyclist have to wear helmets, speed limits, seatbelt laws (unfortunately usurped with federal carrot/stick), driver license standards (also usurped by Real ID Act). Federal gov’t has no business in dictating to the states on what kind of laws we will have and traffic laws is the most meddled with,

Geeze. This guy is obsessed with color/race. I don't think he sees anyone as simply human.
I don't think he has any idea what "State rights" means. Maybe he's gone senile or something.
To: callisto
Chrisy must be huffing aerosols. He’s gone totally cuckoo.

The scary part is that I think people like Matthews actually believe this stuff; that conservatives are all closet racists and formulate their policy as a cover for it. I realize that’s what they do - group/identity politics - but when I hear them attempt to encapsulate GOP thinking, they have the sound of people who have never taken the time to listen to, much less understand conservatives. They have no idea what the other side truly believes.

I think you are. I don’t like Cohen any more than Herenton but I hope Cohen beats King Willie into the ground. After that, Willie will be a 70 year old ex-mayor with absolutely NOTHING to look forward to. To be an out-of-work pol is a living death.

I remember those days too. I seriously think there must be something in the water cooler over at MSNBC that softens the brain.

Chris Matthews is a racist. He was only able to forget that Obama is black for a short time by his own admission.
If he was not racist, he would never notice the O was black, because he would be paying so much attention to the breathtaking stupidity and lies that he would be color-blind.

Really, Chris Tingle? You don’t think states should be allowed to decide for themselves whether or not to have income taxes? Sales taxes? Speed limits? Smog checks? Trans fats?
