Saw a post today from someone who was an Obama supporter but who now regrets that support very much and is slowly but surely becoming educated and aware of the deception that was perpetrated to get Obambi into power.
Met a table full of people at the Tea Party Nation convention banquet who were in the Tea Party movement but who had never heard of Free Republic (and of course, recommended FR to them all).
Wondering if those who may be new to FR from either of these domains might want to post some comments.
Here are mine: Welcome to Free Republic. It is a huge and awesome place to be. (Or maybe that is a "hugh" place to be...inside joke here...you'll learn these).
We need as many FReepers as possible because knowledge is strength and there is no better place to learn what is going on in our country and the world than right here!
Pinging some other FReepers who were at the TPN convention/banquet since they may also have encountered attendees who were not on FR yet...but maybe are now...

If you are new here and lurking, or if you have signed on and want to join in the fray, understand that you are at a very special place on the big web...a place that has grown in size and activism, in wisdom and through genuine back and forth banter, with a shared to goal to return to the foundations of our nation.
We all disagree on something and yet agree on many, many things. ( For instance, most of us cannot stand RINOS or 'republicans in name only'.) And lots of us are registered independents who lean strongly to the right, big time, but cannot abide the current crop of weak and mushy RINOS in the Republican Party.
We all love to comment on the current events of the day.
This is a SAFE AND CLEAN website. We may sneek in a damn, etc but there is always someone coming along to get dirty posts wiped off the map.
You are more welcome here than you can imagine....many of us KNOW each other because of meeting at various venues like inaugural balls in DC, or marches in DC, or meetings in DC, etc.
If you are new and want to be a part of this adventure, sit back, register, post and introduce yourself and try to not become addicted!!!!
I’m fairly new to FreeRepublic. I love it. I’d visited before, and the presentation needs work. There needs to be a very clear “home” and I still wonder if I’ve found everything that I am interested in.
I’ve thought about asking for two areas: a “media sources” library so I could, for example, make my own collage of BHO promising “bipartisan” to follow up the devastating “healthcare on CSPAN” video... and I’d like transcripts posted as well.
The other area would be an artist/contributor type of coffee house where ideas could find talent.
For the main forum (I think it is main) I wish there was a HOT indicator. People repost hot links... but I really like the comments & the best stories are quickly split up. But, if those stories that kept getting clicks floated to the top of the new right-side column, that might work well.
I’ve not posted on any of this yet — I worry I may be missing things that already exist.

No, no and no.
I posted yesterday that people like me are going to be coming out of the woodwork in the new year. While I don’t agree w/ everything here I have felt very welcomed and I find even posts I disagree w/ to be filled w/ passion & a strong belief in this country of ours. That being said, I find myself, surprisingly, agreeing w/ more posts & ideas than I ever could have imagined.
My brother (he’s also my best friend)asks me jokingly, “How’s that hope & change working out for you?”— when he calls. He too is a VERY disgusted Obama voter.
I’ll say it again & again- we are out here— liberals, former liberals, people who voted for Obama & who are stunned at what our vote has wrought. Gobsmacked, if you will. I also realize that some people may be suspicious & I do understand that.
Again, thanks for the welcome, I am really enjoying the articles & posts, & I am learning A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

The simple solution is to be logged on to Free Republic as close to 24 hours a day as possible.
Boot up the computer on your way to making coffee
Never get to far away.
Use the pager at the top of latest post page and turn the sound all the way up.
When ever you hear it, get to your computer post haste.

I’m newer than some, but it wasn’t the Tea Parties specifically that finally motivated me to join. I lurked for a couple years before I finally signed up in early November 2008 (about three days after the election, IIRC).

OH - so glad you found this thread! It was your post I read earlier that prompted it!
So, see - your comments are already having a positive effect!
Welcome and I agree.
However, there are still many who have not yet seen the “light” - but there is hope - since you have - that many many more (like several I know and love) will one day soon do the same.
What I like here is the Safety and “Cleanliness” of the site. Somebody gets a little “dirty” and they disappear. Go over to Reddit or the Daily Koz for comparison, you’ll come away thinking you should wash your hands! The moderators here do an excellent job. You’ll also find that if you make a mistake (and I have), you get some very helpful (not spiteful) private replies that guide you along. This is THE BEST place to LEARN ... everything worth knowing politically goes through this site. (Also, don’t forget to give them your loose change now and then when they are having a fund drive so they can keep supporting the financials for the page ... this is one place you’ll get your money’s worth!!).
I liked your active participation in the Tea Party Convention threads over the weekend.
Yep - understand the lurk thing. (It can be a bit intimidating to post that first time after lurking...primarily because there are so many well-informed and articulate - and funny - and sometimes zingy - FREEPES!
Glad you got here in 2008....and are ready for the momentous battles ahead of this year!
