A sign created by a poster at Free Republic, and then recreated in a Captain America comic, has led Marvel to admit a mistake.
*updated
"It looks like Marvel Comic's Captain America is throwing his mighty shield at the Tea Party Movement. Warner Todd Huston wrote on his Publius forum blog that the super-powered soldier who fought the Nazis in WWII observes with disdain Americans who are seemingly compared to Tea Party Movement protesters of today:
"In preparation for the infiltration, Marvel Comics depicts the two super heroes out of costume and observing from a rooftop a street filled with what can only be described as a Tea Party protest. The scene shows crowds of people in city streets carrying signs that say, stop the socialists, tea bag libs before they tea bag you,and no to new taxes. Naturally, the people in these crowds are depicted as being filled with nothing but white folks.

"According to to Mr. Quesada, the book was ready to go to printer, but the panel in question had a group of protesters handling signs with no words on them, so the editor asked the letterer to "fudge in" some quick believable slogans at the last minute. The letterer referred to this sign as a sample to work from.

What does the sign say? The pic you posted is black.
Comic books with commie propaganda?? Who’da thunk it? Check Matt Groening’s(The Simpsons) rants against Nixon. Groening celebrated when Nixon died.
Tea bag the Democrats before they Tea bag you. FreeRepublic.com.
Yeah, "all Tea Party activists are white racists".
What about these good Tea Party Patriots I saw in DC on 9/12/09??
Tea bag is derogative.
Dear Marvel Editor idiots:
First of all, curse you for tainting my favorite SuperHero of all time, Captain America.
I became hooked after picking up my first Captain America featuring his battle against “Baron Blood”. You have now retroactively tainted everything I held dear about Captain Rogers.
It may come as a surprise to you mush-heads, but America faces a very real enemy, islam, or for you PC-brainwashed morons “radical islam”.
Why don’t you show some ballz and have the very embodiment of everything great about this country fighting the people who would force us to adopt their religion?
Why don’t you show him destroying the animals that strap explosives to mentally-retarded children, all in the name of their god?
I’ll tell you why: because the people in charge of Captain America don’t really love America.
I thought in the earlier article he claimed that the letterer or editor had CHANGED what he'd put into the art and that the original would appear in the later reprints.
So will they be blank then? Or protesting the cancellation of Conan O'Brien's talk show?
In the 1990s, the guy who owned Marvel owned another company that hired Monica during the impeachment proceedings (on Vernon Jordon’s recommendation, after she’d been pressured to lie on the stand by Bill Clinton).

Twice in the last two months, Vernon E. Jordan Jr., a close friend of Clinton’s and longtime Revlon board member, telephoned Perelman directly to cadge a $40,000-a-year job for Monica Lewinsky, the former White House intern. One of those calls, sources say, came 24 hours after Lewinsky swore out an affidavit in which she denied having sex with the president. (Jordan’s wife, Ann, is a board member at another Perelman company.)...
Clinton friend Webster Hubbell lasted a bit longer. In April 1994, Perelman’s parent company, MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings Inc., signed a $100,000 consulting contract with Hubbell, just weeks after he had been indicted and resigned from the Justice Department.

Remember DISNEY bought MARVEL last year.

It is an obscene way to indicate domination and victory.
