Things I don’t miss about George W. Bush (Michelle Malkin)

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but someone has to do it.

The “Miss Me Yet?” billboard (inspired by Jonathan Maney’s t-shirts) is cute. But let’s not get carried away with nostalgia.

President Bush put America on the proper war footing after 9/11 and deserves much credit for doing so, but he also:

1) joined with open-borders progressives McCain and Kennedy to try to force shamnesty down our throats;

2) massively expanded the federal role in education;

3) championed the Medicare prescription drug entitlement using phony math;

4) kowtowed to the jihadi-enabling Saudis;

5) stocked DHS with incompetents and cronies;

6) pushed Hillarycare for housing;

7) enabled turncoat Arlen Specter;

8. nominated crony Harriet Myers to the Supreme Court;

9) pre-socialized the economy for Obama by embracing TARP, the auto bailouts, the AIG bailout, and in his own words:

“I’ve abandoned free-market principles to save the free-market system.” – George W. Bush

No, I don’t miss having a corporate socialist Republican in the White House any more than I like having a corporate socialist Democrat in the White House now.

Is that the best you can do? It's all I need, you're not exactly Stephen Douglas.

Thank you.

“I actually like Michelle Malkin’s post, but given the choice of The Texan or The Kenyan, it’s an easy choice.”

Why do you only choose from the bottom of the barrel?

Did I say she was a liberal?
But since you mention it, she did rather loudly defend FDR’s unconstitutional internment of Japanese Americans during WWII. Not saying that makes her a liberal, but it’s certainly not a conservative stance.

Had it been Republican President Wendell Willkie (elected 1940) who ordered the internment of Japanese-Americans, that action would most likely be defended by conservatives to this very day.

I think you are correct. And, I think his daddy cared too much about what the New York Times thought.

Good post!

I will thank him for that, but also I will blame his actions and inaction's for giving us Obama.

I really don't think that's the case, honestly.

The folks who flocked to Obama didn't do so because Bush gave us the Medicare prescription drug benefit, or No Child Left Behind, or because of Harriet Miers or for any of the reasons we are dissatisfied with him.

I don't blame GWB for Obama. And I wish other FReepers would stop.

Whatever anti-Bush sentiment played a part in Obama's popularity, it was of the media-created-myth variety. (Cheney is the devil incarnate, etc...), not because he wasn't conservative enough.

“You have a problem with the truth amigo. “

No, I don’t. Anyone not willing to acknowledge that Bush was a lib does.

“Israelis supported Bush by margins of 70-30 even when you and a large majority of Americans abandoned him while he was conducting the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and on jihadists where and when he found them.”

Yet Condi Rice kept pressuring them to give up territory. How’s that working out?

“Bet you effing hated that didn’t you?”

At least he finally corrected the troop estimate.

I hated the fact he expanded government to an extent not seen since LBJ and you praise him.

“LOL, a million dollars to a university is your evidence that Bush supports terrorists?”

A million dollars to a foreign university educating the enemy. Bush can be “charitable” with his own damn money.

“Shinseki was wrong genius. You didn’t get that memo did you?”

I only ever got one memo from the SecDef. Sorry, that wasn’t it.

Actually, on this one he wasn’t.

“Now did you support the surge or didn’t you lefty?”

Listen, sparky, I’m not the one supporting LBJ II here.

Yes, I finally supported taking the gloves at least partly off. I’d have rather we had done much earlier.

“Here’s part of the memo, courtesy of Mackubin Owens, that you missed Lefty.”

Which agrees with me: that on the single issue of needing “more troops” was correct. Since you can never really plan what the threat on the ground will actually be, the reasons for those troop levels is less important.

There was NO REAL PLANNING on the part of the WH for post-war Iraq. Otherwise, they might’ve left Garner in charge instead of flailing around with the State Department.

“People like her can leave the conservative movement since she adds nothing to it anyway.”

At least she didn’t go out of her way to damage it, like the last Republican President and the last Republican Presidential candidate.

Well, dragnet (since you felt compelled to post to me twice with meaningless insults).....I'm not going to lecture you on theology, but I suggest you do some study and find out who exactly it is who appoints ALL leaders of ALL nations.

If you disagree with my comment about God's appointing George W. Bush, then your disagreement is with Him and His word, and not me.

Oh......and I show up to counter the BDS fanatics here and the false accusations they invariably make. And usually on the "I hate Bush" threads you can find a few DU trolls agreeing with guys like you (why do YOU "show up" on these threads??) because you share the same visceral distaste for the man of dignity and integrity who led us through 8 difficult years.

I enjoy fighting for truth. I don't expect to change the minds of the hard core haters, but the majority of thoughtful people appreciate seeing both sides of the debate.

For instance, the guy upthread who lied about Bush's not appointing John Roberts. It's important that someone counter the lie with the truth (which he avoided admitting).

That's why I'm here. Facts. Stubborn, relentless, annoying facts that tamp down the emotional blather and extremism of the haters. Others have done a far better job than I here, and I appreciate their truth-telling very much.

So..........are you now going to "get help" to be able to understand God's Sovereignty and His appointment of nation's leaders? I don't need any help in that regard - it's pretty clear.......but thanks for the kind thought.... :)

Are you a Christian Kosovo zealot?

Good catch, jwalsh. Thank you.

I believe God appointed George W. Bush (a moral follower of Jesus Christ) after 8 years of a despicable, amoral, debauched Bill Clinton.

There were millions upon millions of Christians praying for the election of 2000 when algor was trying to steal the election from Bush. There were millions of us on our knees praying for God's mercy in that election, and millions of us who thanked Him when gore did not succeed.

Understanding God's Sovereignty and thanking Him for His mercy on America is not a sign of a "zealot." It is the sign of one who believes that God has had His hand on America, and that He uses leaders, good and bad, to accomplish His purpose for us. And the fundamental truth of that theology doesn't change just because any given leader doesn't do everything we want him to do.

In November 2008, I wondered if God had withdrawn His grace from America because we had abandoned Him, but I was wrong. I can see His hand of mercy on us now. I can see His confusing the minds of the enemy and showing mercy on America in the awakening of His people, and in the prayers of believers all over the world to save us from the tyranny that is upon us.

If my faith in the Sovereignty and mercy makes me a "zealot" in some people's eyes and a laughing stock in others, so be it.

Thank you, jwalsh, for your battle here to correct the falsehoods of the extremists. I hope this won't get you in trouble, but God bless you! :)

His lack of leadership on that was appalling.

I believe that was the rub with a lot of us. Foreign policy? Very good. Handling the aftermath of 9/11? Great! Domestic policies? Awful! But, as a side not, Congress did not help matters at all in 2005 after he was re-elected mainly because of his Ownership Society rhetoric. He hit the ground running in 2005 trying to reform SS and the Republicans in Congress stabbed him in the back. The rest of 2005 and 2006 were disasterous and then the Dems came back into Congressional Power in 2007 and began to REALLY make a mess of things.

Honestly, I have very little energy any more defending any President when our real troubles lie in the Politicos for life in Congress, the Politicos for life in places like the State Dept and all of the lobbyists for life that run around Washington.

I’m sure there were quite a few Christians in Kosovo that probably wondered why this supposed moral follower of Christ supported their Muslim oppressors.

Look. I'm not going to argue with you about my statement of faith based on God's word and His Sovereignty.

As I told another, if you don't believe that God appointed George W. Bush, your argument is not with me, it's with Him.

“As I told another, if you don’t believe that God appointed George W. Bush, your argument is not with me, it’s with Him.”

God appointed George Bush, but he also appointed Obama, Carter, and Clinton to be leaders.

That doesn’t remotely mean any of them are GOOD leaders. Apparently, we’re being taught a lesson.

Bush supported Muslim oppression against Christians. That’s not the action of an actual Christian.
