BELLINGHAM,Wash. -- Local businessman Paul Akers has announced his candidacy for the US Senate.
He's running for the post currently held by Patty Murray. Akers is president and founder of Fast Cap in Bellingham.
He also hosts a talk show Saturday mornings on KGMI radio.
He has no previous political experience.
Akers says he supports only legislation that "cuts costs, reduces waste and provides value."
He says he was not planning to announce his candidacy this early, but national conservative activist Dick Morris broadcast the news on the Sean Hannity radio show Friday.
Did Patty Murray have previous political experience when she ran for Senate?
Yes, she was a State Senator for 4 years before getting elected to the U.S. Senate.
OMG, this guy has a real job in the real world.

Hi, I'm Paul Akers. Welcome to The American Innovator. This show is about ideas. It's about creativity. It's about business. It's about how to take an idea from a dinner napkin, all the way to the market shelf . . .No matter where I go, when people find out that I'm an inventor they say: "I have this idea for " It seems that everyone has an idea. People just need to know how to make it happen! So, I'm here to help you do just that. You can call in and say: "You know, Paul, I have this idea ," and you can talk about your idea in specifics or generalities, as much or as little as you want. You can ask me anything from: "how to deal with marketing? Modeling? A stereo lithography? Packaging? A sales plan? " Come to me with any of your questions; the sky is the limit. I have a lot of experience, and I would love to help you.
The second aspect of the show is business. It's about how other people have built dynamic companies from their simple ideas. The purpose behind this piece of the show is to provide inspiration. Are you sitting there drinking your coffee right now? I want you to inspire you to say "Hey, I can do this. I need to stop talking about it, and do it." This is the show where you can begin that process. The road to success is paved one small step at a time. Every day, if you do a little bit and tomorrow you do a little bit more " Before you know it, you will have an accumulation of work. This will help keep you motivated to make your dreams a reality.
The last facet, and probably the one I am most passionate about, is the "Toyota Production System." I love "lean manufacturing." What's that you ask? Let me explain. About eight years ago, I learned about the "Toyota Production System," which is a highly efficient methodology of manufacturing. This system can help any business compete in the new global marketplace. It's a system that I have advocated and promoted to various businesses all over the world.
These are the three main things that this show is about: ideas, business and the "Toyota Production System." During the show, we will talk with business leaders from all over the world and see how they are succeeding. We will talk with local business leaders here in Bellingham, as well as business leaders in other cities, states, and countries. Welcome to The American Innovator.

Asked if he's at all tempted by the idea that this might be the best year in a while to mount a political comeback, Rossi gave this standard demurral: "I never said I would never run again for public office."
We can hope he feels called to serve. He may be the only (R) candidate who has a chance of beating Murray.
