CNN) -- Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania, a longtime fixture on the House subcommittee that oversees Pentagon spending, died after complications from gallbladder surgery, according to his office. He was 77.
The Democratic congressman recently underwent scheduled laparoscopic surgery at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, to remove his gallbladder. The procedure was "routine minimally invasive surgery," but doctors "hit his intestines," a source close to the late congressman told CNN.

A whole lot of stinking corrupt scum. God damn them all.
Yes, I agree Murtha’s work in Congress was “malpractice” as the title states.
This definitley falls outside the 'standard of care', but is a known complication of any laparoscopic proceedure. However, the surgery having been done at Bethsda Navy Hospital, the nearest of kin would probably need to get permission from the government to bring a case. Perhaps a lawyer could clarify, if I have misstated the law.
Dying of a perforated gut is not a pleasant way to die. Multiple intraabdominal abcesses or generalized peritonitis, then generalized sepsis, then pulmonary complications, followed by renal failure and multiple system failure. With him being 78 years old he already had a strike or two against, and if he had concurrent disease such as cardiac, pulmonary, or otherwise problems, he was looking down the barrel of a difficult recovery.
Proof that our system is horribly inept!

Oops, that’s a *government-run* hospital. The 1 pilloried for having too many rats a few years ago.
Super, super! Best one yet!
I wonder how many readers know what you meant.
Where is John “ambulance” Edwards when you need him?
” but doctors “hit his intestines,”
Peritonitis....
Rough way to go.
Hated his politics.
May he rest in peace and may his family find some too.
All of Murtha’s problems are now behind him . . . save one.
Was the surgeon a Marine?
A special election, date to be set within 10 days, probably May 18 (Primary day). I think there are already Republican challengers.
I think that this is a Federal gov't hospital.......

Old Harry R. isn't looking so good, I'm just sayin....
Kennedy Number One, Murtha Number Two, and my money is on Byrd for Number Three.
And I expect Republicans to win the special elections to replace Murtha and Byrd just as Scott Brown won “The People’s” aka Teddy’s Seat.
Guess Murtha failed to notate before his surgery that God is a Marine and didn’t appreciate Murtha’s turncoat actions!
I know. I forgot the sarcasm tag.
A democratic congressman said that this is why Obamacare needs to pass. Only problem, it was a government hospital that made the mistake. It doesn’t look good for ‘government run.’ That’s why I made that statement.
Just lost my grandfather to that “2% risk category”. Went in for a surgery and and never came out. One of the worst days of my life to date. He was by far and way one of my most favorite people on the planet. Anyway, it was a “mistake” error, whatever, but after CAREFUL and thorough review it did not rise to the level of malpractice. It does happen...
