The district went for Kerry in ‘04 and then went for McCain in ‘10. it was the only one to flip like that. It has a cook pvi of +1 Republican so it leans and is trending our way.

Renowned even on Capitol Hill for his ability to bring pork back to his district... With no disparagement of Rep. Murtha, there in a nutshell is what's wrong with government; it's devolved into a game of who can bring home the pork. Like a crazy poker game with stakes climbing into the trillions, it's going to end badly.

This district will most likely go GOP, I would not hesitate to mark this as a pick up.
The R running did well last time against Murtha.. Murtha kept getting elected because the district said, yea he’s a crook but he’s our crook.
Now he’s gone and has no heir apparent, the GOP would have likely gained this seat even without the anti-democrat/Reid/Pelosi/Fauxbam tidal wave that is out there right now.
Murtha could probably get re-elected, but anyone else on the ballot, would likely lose as a D.

Murtha is like Kennedy. They voted for him because he was so entrenched that he was an institution. Any Democrat running to replace him is just a democrate. A halfway decent Republican should be able to win here.
