Ex-Rep. Tom Tancredo Suggests 'Civics, Literacy Test' Would Have Foiled Obama's Election; High-Priced National 'Tea Party' Convention Stirs Debate Among Factions.
BY STEVEN PORTNOY & JOHN BERMAN
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 4, 2010.
The opening-night speaker at first ever National Tea Party Convention ripped into President Obama, Sen. John McCain and "the cult of multiculturalism," asserting that Obama was elected because "we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote in this country."
The speaker, former Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., told about 600 delegates in a Nashville, Tenn., ballroom that in the 2008 election, America "put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House ... Barack Hussein Obama."
Tancredo did not stop at the Democratic president -- ripping McCain, R-Ariz., the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, for shaping up to be a repeat of "Bush 1 and Bush 2."
"Thank God John McCain lost the election," he said, voicing his belief that McCain would have presided over big budgets and lacked a tough stand against immigration.
Tancredo served 10 years in the House of Representatives and made a name for himself with his ardent opposition to immigration. He believes the 2008 election served to galvanize the right.
"This is our country," he told the crowd. "Let's take it back."

It is both un-Constitutional and just plain wrong to force one taxpayer to give another a loan, with the terms dictated by the Federal government.
Can you imagine having Juana McCain as the leader of the GOP until 2017 (due to having been elected in 2008 & re-elected in 2012)? YIKES!!!!!!!!!
Yes, unless you can show me article and section you find it in. Read article 1 section 8&9, and then Amendment 10. That explains what the feds can do and can't do. Anything else is BS.
Bailing out private business isn't listed.
Actually the SBA (Small Business Administration) does have a direct loan program to loan taxpayer dollars to private business owners. They are not easy to obtain and the owner can certainly make poor management decisions.
But do thye loan taxpayer dollars to private business which are failing because of poor business decisions?
until...
He sided with George Bush and voted to pass the stimulus bill.
+++++++++++++
Do you mean the TARP bill - the bank bailout? Stimulus 1 and 2 passed under bammy..
In some cases, yes. Given the statistical odds that 3 out of 5 small businesses fail within 5 years, the odds are that the MAJORITY of loans go to businesses that make poor business decisions.
That doesn’t sound like sound business to me.
.
LOL - I dont think anyone would accuse the US Government of “sound business practices”.
But the bet that the government is making is that the 2 out of 5 that are successful, will bring in more tax revenue over time due to profits and taxes on employees than will be lost on the 3 businesses that fail.
Considering that the loss is only about $100,000 to $150,000 at most for each of the other three, you only need for each of the two businesses to provide a tax revenue of about $50,000 each year for 5 years to break even from a tax perspective.
In some cycles, the bet pays off. In other cycles it does not. However, these loans are not easy to obtain and most are not able to qualify for the full $150,000. Also, some will be wildly successful (2 of the 5) and one or two will be marginal. Meaning that they will survive for a couple of years and pay back some of the money. Others will be spectacular failures. Again, it is a bet that the government is making. The majority of time, it pans out and it can be argued that overall, the tax revenue picture is marginally better than if the government had not done anything.
“They are not easy to obtain and the owner can certainly make poor management decisions. “
Unless you just arrived from India and want to buy a 7-11? :)
Go Tea Party!!
As for Obama - the less said the better - he’s a Bolshevik.
Uh oh, you must be one of those believers in the “Bolshevik Conspiracy”, wording courtesy of the founder of the Bolshevik conspiracy, none other than “I am not a Bolshevik”, Barack Hussein Obama. Has a certain familiar ring, no? I did not have sex with that woman. Thanks to the enigma machine, we don’t need no stinking translation.
Hrm...so the Small Business administration is unconstitutional too then right?
Finally some coverage by MSM of a true patriot speaking truth.
Lotsa luck finding candidates more conservative than Tancredo.
Let us know how that works out for you. Hang onto that grudge against Tancredo, the bleeding heart commie (:rolleyes). It’ll serve us all real well.
LOL - so THAT is the ticket. That is what I’ve been doing wrong!
THE MSM IS OUR ENEMY!!!
GIVE THEM NOTHING!!!
Accept no leader....we don't need one.
Let no one define us....we know who we are and what we are about. We do NOT need the MSM or self-proclaimed leaders to speak for us.
Time to flush the RINO collaborators.
