VANITY: The Secretary of State Project-Soros Funded "Under the Radar" Liberalism?

I work hard to keep abreast of political issues, and Free Republic has been a Godsend in this respect, as have Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin. They all serve as a tripwire for issues that I might otherwise miss in a busy day.

Today, I happened to be listening to Jay Severin on WTKK 96.9 in Boston on my way home, and he was discussing the issue of Scott Brown, and why it has taken so long to seat him.

In this discussion, he discussed at some length "The Secretary of State Project". I had never heard of this organization, and Jay Severin's discussion proceeded along these lines:

1.) Why isn't Scott Brown voting on issues right now? Nikki Tsongas (also from Massachusetts) was seated and voting within 48 hours of her election.

2.) He is not seated because the Massachusetts Secretary of State (Galvin) has not certified the election result.

According to this analysis at Flopping Aces he stated: ...Though the vote will be held the day before the Senate convenes for the new session on Jan 20th, MA election law cannot certify the election results before 5pm the 15th day following the election… 10 days to allow for absentee ballots and overseas servicement, and five for sending on the filings. At that point, the ballots go to the Governor’s Counsel where, with five councillors, will undergo examination. This group meets once a week, on Wednesdays only. The Governor, in the presence of the councillors, will then either issue summons for questions, or issue certification. Thus, if the election had no challenges, the earliest date of certification by Gov. Deval Patrick would be Wednesday, Feb 3rd calendar days.

So, now we hear it will be February 11th. Why?

This was the background that led into the discussion of The Secretary of State Project.

Jay Severin then discussed at length The Secretary of State Project which is dedicated to getting liberals elected to Secretary of State positions in key states. According to Severin, they have succeeded in doing so according to their web site: ...Since 2006, we have won races in 9 out of 11 states including Ohio, Minnesota, Iowa, Montana, Missouri, West Virginia, Nevada, New Mexico, and Oregon..."

He said that most people don't pay much attention to this position when voting, and opined that it is a KEY position, especially looking at what took place in the Minnesota Senatorial race resulting in the election of Al Franken. Most people don't even know who their Secretary of State is, and in the sole hands of leftists, can be an aid of immeasurable power to liberals who want to circumvent the will of the people. Seeing what is happening with Scott Brown, I agree with him.

According to him, it is a leftist organization, funded by Soros and populated with Moveon.org people. After going to the site, reading it and checking out the bios on the people there, I would have to agree. "...Potential donors should know that the SoS Project’s startup and overhead costs are already fully funded. So your contributions go to providing money directly to candidates in targeted races and independent expenditure campaigns in critical states, not to our operational costs..."

Apparently, there is no limit to the money can be pumped into this organization, which can distribute that money in whatever fashion they wish.

I don't think I live under a rock, but I have to say, this surprised me. Does anyone out there have any direct experience or knowledge of this organization?

The American Spectator blew the cover off this in last months issue. Try spectator.org and check their archives.

I wish Rush or Glenn Beck would get on this.

Looks like we better start looking for good people to fill SOS positions very aggressively.

Direct knowledge or experience... no. All I know is that the SOS project came about after the 2000 Florida election. It would only take a small amount of money and organization by the uber-left to have considerable power in the election process. Look at Ohio with Acorn and Minnesota with Franken. Nevada had some issues too I believe.

Jay Severin is a pretty sharp guy, and I have heard him say that if he were given 100,000 votes to distribute strategically wherever he wanted to around the country, that he could swing an election.

I see this as a move by the libs to undercut the foundation of elections by going directly at one of the linchpins, those who can make decisions on electoral issues in states.

ARROGANT SOS (MY TITLE)

In Massachusetts, concern that Secretary of State William Galvin, who had been cited by federal courts for failing to count absentee ballots in earlier elections would withhold certification of upset winner Scott Brown to allow Democrats to salvage the health care effort rattled observers.
However a spokesman for Galvin said he would file the papers "probably on Wednesday." (Feb. 3, 2010).

GRETA WIRE

~snip~

Sen-elect Scott Brown is expected to take his seat in the US Senate next week, this according to a senior Senate GOP aide. The aide said Gov. Deval Patrick, D-MA, has indicated he plans to sign Brown's election certificate next Wednesday (Feb 10), and a swearing-in ceremony would then follow on Friday.
BUT -- the aide cautioned that this all turns on Patrick signing the election certificate, as well as the Secy of the Commonwealth, as both signatures are needed for the Secy of the US Senate to approve the document.

MN
OH
WA

I know in Ohio, SoS Brunner denied counties their own electronic voting rolls prior to the 2008 election. Ohio lost to 0baSoros—by a number approximately equal to what W won in 2004—at which time, the mere calling of the state for 0bama was touted as THE pivotal moment in the election. ACORN, foreign voters running around all over creation in the state and leaving it once the deed was done (out of state and out of country). Brunner is now running for senator to replace Voinovich.

If you look at SoS sites in various states and see what their ‘initiatives’ are, you see that Soros is funding it all, all of it communist, pinko, vote-stealing lies.

Soros is a major problem for this country.

He has the money.

He has the motive.

He has the influence.

There is NO analog on the conservative side...except the Tea Party Movement! We are all a “Daddy Warbucks” for conservatism in elections all over the country, but Soros is the one they all go to with the deep pockets.

This is all very interesting and I think there is a point to the story that is being missed.

Everyone get out their trusty tin foil hat and read on.

Fast forward to 2012. Obama is running for re-election and he is nominated by the Dems. The Dems will "certify" that Obama meets the constitutional requirements to hold the Office of the President. The normal process is that the Secretarys of State of the various states simply accept Nancy Pelosi or some other Dems signature as providing that certification. Having your own people in the position of Secretary of State would rule out any possibility that the "certification" would be challenged with a demand for proof that Obama meets the constitutional requirements. Can you image the flak that would fly if even one Secretary of State asked to see a real Obama birth certificate?

So I would not discount the idea that the Dems want as much insurance as they can get that there will be no problems when they re-nominate The One in 2012. Securing as many Secretary of State positions as possible would certainly be an important element of their overall strategy to re-elect Obama.

LOL...makin' mine now...:)

I have no idea what that process would be like. Would he even be able to run again without that challenge coming up?

I’ve been screaming about this for years. This is what I wanted the GOP to do when they had power in D.C. Nobody was listening. S of States are the most important people in elections. Usually no problem if they are Republicans, but as we all know, democrats are nearly always crooked. They cheat in any way they can. Our election system is broken because of their crimes against the country. If we don’t correct this, we will never win another close race.
