LITCHFIELD, Conn. Rip Torn was so intoxicated when he broke into a Connecticut bank carrying a loaded gun that he thought he was home, taking off his hat and boots and leaving them by the door, according to court records.
The 78-year-old actor was wearing the same battered boots Monday when he was arraigned on several charges after spending the weekend in a police holding cell near his hometown of Salisbury, in northwestern Connecticut.
Torn, who did not enter a plea, was released on $100,000 bond a few hours later and waded through a phalanx of media to a friend's waiting vehicle. He smiled and wished onlookers a nice day but did not answer questions about the arrest.
He is expected to enter an alcohol rehabilitation center in New York as early as Tuesday, according to his attorney.

Fast forward 30 years and this might be the fate of the man who not long ago believed the hype that he was the long awaited Messiah.
After bankrupting the nation and creating civil war, I doubt Obama will still have eager servants, sycophants or Secret Service to keep him on course.

I have enjoyed his acting for years. Sounds like he may need a custodian at this point. Sad.

he thought he was homeYep, I said the other day he would claim it was a misunderstanding and he'd get a slap on the wrist. You and I would never see the light of day again.

People who don’t know anything about guns aways say, “with a LOADED gun” as if that makes it really alarming. If somebody walked around with an unloaded gun I would think he wasn’t in control of all his faculties.
Remember: Guns Don’t Kill People, Bullets Do.

I wonder if, when he's in the courtroom, he'll reprise his gut-splittingly-funny "Li'l Punkin'" Twinkie defense from "Trial and Error." Hell, I'd let him off if I was on the jury!
That scene made me and my husband laugh so hard we practically choked to death.
I've always liked Rip Torn in everything I've ever seen him in. My prayers are with him ... as an ol' ex alchie, I totally empathize. Hey, one morning I woke up in a laundromat dryer with no idea how I got there. And that wasn't half as bad as the time I woke up in jail with no idea how I got there. =^ /\
I hope ol' Rip finds the strength to make the right decision about boozin'.

Reminds me of a friend that was awakened early one morning after by his Dad to go move his car out of the driveway. “The keys are on the table dad - can't you move it yourself?” he replied in his hung-over state.
“No - you move it. It's in the neighbor's driveway and he needs to get to work.” (The driveway's were separated by a full length, and tall, hedge!)

he thought he was home A guy I knew in college came back to the dorms after having had more than a few too many. Went to the correct room number -- in the wrong dorm (the interior layout was identical). Outraged to find somebody sleeping in "his" bed, he drug the rightful occupant out in the hall, slammed, and locked the door, then passed out.
Spent a year on disciplinary probation. These days they probably would have called the cops.
