Recipients of economic-stimulus money said they had used the funds to pay 599,108 workers in the last quarter of 2009, fewer than the number of jobs they had reported to have created or saved in the first seven months after the plan was enacted.
The recipients' reports, published on the official government Web site recovery.gov late Saturday night, are likely to fuel further controversy over the impact of the $787 billion package, as Democrats seek to craft new jobs-creation proposals to address the country's continued, high jobless rate.
Many opinion polls suggest that most voters do not believe the current stimulus program, which was passed last February, is working.
Stimulus recipients previously reported that they had directly "created or saved" 640,329 jobs by September 30, 2009, but their filings were widely criticized after it emerged that some people had reported saving jobs when they had actually spent the money on pay raises or paying employees who were not in danger of being laid off.

Many opinion polls suggest that most voters do not believe the current stimulus program, which was passed last February, is working. Most voters?
Obama hasn't accomplished one single thing with the economy since being in office except to drain trillions from it for nothing in return and only MOST do not believe...?
What is wrong with the remainder of the population, living in a communal cave or something?
What's the messiah working on now, the 3rd or forth stimulus to get the economy going again?
Oh, I'm sorry, he's calling it a jobs bill now...
The day the economy starts turning around mr. totus is the day papers are signed to cut taxes. (PERIOD)

How do YOU spell...?
Clunker Math
A clunker, which travels 12,000 miles a year, at 15 mpg, uses 800 gallons of gas a year.
A vehicle which travels 12,000 miles a year, at 25 mpg, uses 480 gallons a year.
So, the average Cash for Clunkers transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year.
They claim 700,000 vehicles so that's 224 million gallons saved per year.
That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.
5 million barrels is about 5 hours worth of US consumption.
More importantly, 5 million barrels of oil at $70 per barrel costs about $350 million dollars
So, the government paid $3 billion of our tax dollars to save $350 million.
In other words, the government spent $8.57 in YOUR tax dollars, for every single dollar it 'saved'.
...I'm pretty sure these Bozos will do a great job 'reforming' Health Care though...

Not bad, only half of 'em were "workers" for ACORN. :') Thanks FromLori.

Lawmakers grill Geithner on federal deficits, tax hikes
Lawmakers railed against rising federal deficits as well as proposed tax increases at a House hearing Wednesday where Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner defended President Obama's budget plan.
By Mark Trumbull Staff writer posted February 3, 2010 at 4:45 pm EST President Obama's tax and budget proposals drew tough questions from both Republicans and Democrats Wednesday as Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner testified on Capitol Hill. Lawmakers from both parties expressed concern about spiraling deficits, and whether proposed tax hikes would hurt the economy. Mr. Geithner pitched Obama's plan as a three-prong approach: First get the economy growing again. Then impose fiscal discipline with spending restraints and tax hikes. Finally, create a bipartisan commission to make tougher decisions on how to curb federal deficits. Judging by the questions Geithner faced, lawmakers aren't sold on any of those steps. The Treasury secretary said the administration is ready to work with Congress on the details, and tried to cast the mood of skepticism in a positive light. continues at: http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2010/0203/Lawmakers-grill-Geithner-on-federal-deficits-tax-hikes
