Highlights:
*The president in the speech declared that his administration has cut taxes for 95% of Americans. He even chided Republicans for not applauding on that point. However, just 21% of voters nationwide believe that taxes have been cut for 95% of Americans. Most (53%) say it has not happened, and 26% are not sure. Other polling shows that nearly half the nations voters expect their own taxes to go up during the Obama years.
*The president also asserted that after two years of recession, the economy is growing again. Just 35% of voters believe that statement is true, while 50% say it is false.
*Obama claimed that steps taken by his team are responsible for putting two million people to work who would otherwise be unemployed. Just 27% of voters say that statement is true. Fifty-one percent (51%) say it's false.
*On all the points raised in the presidents speech, there is a huge partisan divide. On the question of cutting taxes for 95% of Americans, hardly any Republicans or unaffiliated voters believe it's true. However, Democrats are evenly divided: 34% say the tax cuts have been delivered, 29% say they havent, and 38% are not sure.
*Sixty-three percent (63%) of Democrats agree with the presidents statement that the economy is growing again. Seventy percent (70%) of Republicans and 60% of unaffiliated voters disagree.
*As for the claim about two million jobs, 46% of Democrats say its true, while 77% of Republicans say its not. As for those not affiliated with either major party, 24% say its true, and 59% say its false.
*Regarding another initiative detailed in the speech on Wednesday night, just nine percent (9%) of voters believe the presidents proposed freeze on discretionary spending will have a big impact on the deficit.

Bottom line: The magic is gone. The speech was a loser.
(P.S., I *heart* Justice Alito. He spoke for me.)
This SOTU address was a bad campaign speech at best. His phony spending freeze and "targeted tax cuts" have been tried before and always fail. If you're going to freeze the budget it needs to be real, not smoke and mirrors. You need to cut entitlements, dissolve certain departments (Education, energy and the EPA come to mind). Then you need to give an ACROSS THE BOARD tax cup. Don't just tinker with the tax tables so people have to pay it back come April 15th.
I know he said "not true" but in his heart it was "YOU LIE!!"
I think this level of disbelief in anything the President says is incredible for a first year.
I don’t think this kind of disbelief has ever happened before.
In other words the general public is saying ‘you lie’.
“just 21% of voters nationwide believe that taxes have been cut for 95% of Americans...and 26% are not sure.”
That must be from the 47% of Americans that never paid taxes in the first place.
“Most (53%) say it has not happened,”
This is from the people that actually make enough to pay taxes in the first place.
Newspeak is a bomb, Obama.
“As for the claim about two million jobs, 46% of Democrats say its true”
If anyone replied that is “true”, Rasmussen should make them fax in the calculations of the 2MM and supporting documentation.
Was there a line for “It’s a crock!”?
He got his post-speech bump. Rasmussen has the jerk at minus 12 today.
Bottom line from my first two pay stubs of the year is that the new tables for withholding federal income tax mean more coming out of my pay.
My federal income tax is up five dollars a week.
Obama means a tax increase for me.
Hilarious!
?
Obama lies and then lies to cover up his lies. He is slowly but surely losing the trust of even his most ardent supporters.
Obama is a serial liar, but unlike Bill Clinton, he is not a very good liar.
I just thought your handle is good that’s all.
