4 day weekend here in TX Panhandle...18 degrees an ALL roads still like glass or closed with drifts.......we have been lucky to not lose power due the ice storm that hit before the snow came down.
Hope all stay safe an warm......
Memphis proper is pretty well out of power. Ice and freezing rain all day.
Read a report that there were sleet drifts due to the wind and sleet. Never heard of those.
Al? Why he’s right here in Nashville - Belle Mead, actually, where the extremely well-to-do do whatever they do. No doubt several freezers full of good food and all that weed he grown under the lights in the basement will keep him all cozy for the duration.
The storm just started here. Raleigh, NC.
However, he decided the better part of prudence would be to make a dash north in an attempt to get north of the storm and then head west.
He called me this morning, and was just skimming the very top of the storm - across northern Missouri.
Hundreds of truckers from his same company were trapped on 1-40 and 1-45, coated in ice on the closed roads. They'll be there for awhile and will miss their deliveries and a loss of drive time = $$$
That 2” to 4” of snow predicted turning into 9” here in East Norman. We haven’t lost power but our streets are extremely slick and hazardous with the ice that is underneath the snow the temps at 23 degrees.
Where is Global Warming? I am ready for spring!
I-40 has been shut down most of the day through Oklahoma and at one time was shut from the NM border to AR and then it has been shut down going east as the storm moves aross the central part of the Country.
Out of power? Are you just making things up? I live in Memphis, and we're having scattered power outages at best - not widespread. This is a conservative board. Go to DU if you want to make up facts.
Some FReeper articles on the current Oklahoma Ice Storm -- and some other states. This is the storm that is moving over to the East, through Arkansas, Missouri, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina...
Will somebody tell me again about global warming? Where is Al Gore when we need him?
Ummmm..., it's "winter"... LOL...
Now, if we're in the middle of summer, in August or something and this happens... then I'll take some real notice of it... :-) As it is now... it's a good-sized winter storm...
