One would hope the President of the United States would know the difference between the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. But in last night's State of the Union Address, President Obama said:
We find unity in our incredible diversity, drawing on the promise enshrined in our Constitution: the notion that we are all created equal….
Um, wrong founding document, Mr. President. It is in our Declaration of Independence that we read:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
As a Facebook friend of mine quipped, "So, does he blame the speechwriter or Bush?"
Wouldn't he have demanded credit for writing it?

my dear dad came to the USA (legally) in his 20s many decades ago..... he knows more of US history, founding principles and documents, and real American values than this Obamanation will ever know.....
my dad also knows what it’s like as a boy to wake up one morning to Nazi bombers overhead, with one’s country being overwhelmed by Hitler’s invading armies, and he cherishes the USA, its principles and opportunities, like no pampered Obamanation ever will.....
that’s one of the strangest and most inaccurate aspects of all the race/gender/class fanatics like Obambi nowadays — they think they have it so rough and are so oppressed or are speaking for people so oppressed in the eviiiilll USA...... few of them (unless they are older than Obami or have really endured some of the worst govts and movements in the world) have any real first-hand experience of the worst aspects of human life -— yet every politically correct academic struts and preens and imagines being God’s gift to humanity

The DoI is more of a statement and a set of principles. Even if some want to consider it the actual Constitution it’s still technically a separate document. I agree it could be considered an honest mistake although when the speech is written ahead of time it’s less excusable. It makes him sound stupid, as if he needed any help.
