Sen. Russ Feingold: Samuel Alito behavior 'inappropriate'
Politico ^ | 1/28/10 | MANU RAJU

Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) sharply criticized Samuel Alito's reaction to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address, calling the conservative Supreme Court justice’s behavior “inappropriate.”

During last night's address, Obama took aim at the Supreme Court's decision to gut campaign finance restrictions for corporations and labor unions. While Supreme Court justices typically maintain stoic dispositions during State of the Union addresses, Alito, who joined the 5-4 opinion, appeared to mouth the words “not true” as Obama spoke.

"That's not very judicial of him," Feingold told POLITICO. "Apparently, he thinks he gets to make the law. He should maintain his judicial demeanor, and that was inappropriate."

I wonder if the dihonesty and digusting contempt and disrespect for the SCOTUS displayed by Obama and Feingold will push Kennedy all the way to the conservative, constructionist side.

Visible, even audible, righteous indignation by any of the Justices would not have been out of line. BO’s disrespect and ignorance screamed out for a response.

"With all due deference to the separation of powers," …

Does this pseudo-POTUS even have an inkling of what deference is?

A courteous expression (by word or deed) of esteem or regard

Courteous regard for people's feelings

A disposition or tendency to yield to the will of others

Not only did the corrupt, simple-minded Chicagoan cross the constitutional line of separation of powers with its implicit expectation of ‘due deference’, he ran roughshod, brutishly and deceitfully, over it in an attempt at international public humiliation directed at SCOTUS conservatives. It will not be forgotten.

This narcissistic embarrassment has no respect for the Constitution, his office, [his] country or himself.

He should’ve stuck out a middle finger and whipped out a pocket copy of the Constitution.

The Pubbies were playing it low this time, letting 0baMao and the Dems be hoisted on their own petard, but they should toss pocket copies of the Constitution up on stage in the future.

Message to Feingold...

WI Sen Poll: Thompson Could Beat Feingold

Earlier this week, Rasmussen polled a potential matchup between Rep. Mike Pence (R) and Sen. Evan Bayh (D) in Indiana, and found the Republican could have beaten the incumbent; he ultimately decided against running.

Now, Rasmussen tests (500 LVs, 1/26, MoE +/- 4.5%) a hypothetical matchup of Sen. Russ Feingold (D) and former Gov. and HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson (R). Again, the Republican has an edge. But will he run?

General Election Matchup
Thompson 47
Feingold 43
Und 4

Thompson leads among independent voters 53 to 36 percent.

President Obama again is somewhat of a drag in Wisconsin: 46 approve of his job performance while 54 percent disapprove. Feingold has a fav/unfav split of 46 / 47, while Thompson is viewed favorably by 56 percent and unfavorably by 39 percent.

I just watched Juan Williams on the panel with Bret.

He unloaded of Obama bigtime. Said that Obama conduct was not only intimidating but dangerous to our Republic.

Truth be told I bet almost everyone of the members of the SCOTUS were upset with the comments.

**** YOU Feingold, you will be toast in the next election.

The Pugilist Of The United States is going to start more fights than his bank account will be able to cover.

What a retard 0bama was to single out the SCOTUS during a prime time speech, 0bama is a low class punk and his time is definitely coming.

Funniest thing about that whole charade was when he called out the GOP leaders for not “working” with him and then he goes on a teen-esque temper tantrum rampage pillaging everyone including the SCOTUS.

People may have disliked Bush when he left, but you mark my words, they will despise and HATE this man before he is finished.

Is this a$$hole's seat in play? Yes it is, but the only other folks running are complete unknowns. It's not looking good.

My thoughts exactly. Not too bright a move to publicly rebuke a co-equal branch of the government, especially when that branch currently has a knife-edge majority leaning the other way politically. It would seem to me that Justice Kennedy, the swing vote on a lot of decisions, will be more likely to side with the conservative side of the court after Obama’s performance last night.

I wouldn’t even be surprised to see some 6-3 or 7-2 decisions if Justice Roberts manages to convince a couple of other justices that the disrespect for the Court shown by the President needs to be addressed. Maybe they were chuckling inside when Obama rebuked them for the decision, knowing they were on his side, or maybe they were distressed to see the Court singled out with such disrespect? Never know. One thing’s sure; none of them smiled.

As for Feingold, people are trying to get Tommy Thompson to run against him. He was Governor from 1987 to 2001 and was generally considered to have done a good job, which explains the 47/43 polling in his favor. If Feingold’s seat isn’t safe, the Dems are going to have a tough election season.

I believe so. And his challenger is doing OK. Sorry, can't recall much more.

So Alito was supposed to stare blankly into space and smile while Obama bashes him in front of Congress and the entire nation? Typical of what Liberals expect when confronted by “The One” Barrack Obama
