WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Thursday formally notified the United Nations that it has embraced the Copenhagen Accord setting nonbinding goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions that was negotiated last month.

Todd Stern, the top U.S. climate negotiator for the Obama administration, also gave notice that, as expected, it will aim for a 17 percent reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases blamed for global warming by 2020, with 2005 as the base year.

These clowns no longer speak for the American people. Anyone foreigners listing to this administration should keep that in mind.

Totally meaningless Obama initiative. Any actual action on the part of the United States requires the approval of the Senate. The chance of that actually happening is, to at least three decimal places, ZERO - as in 0.000. Even Reuters knows this. Take a look at this paragraph in from the article:

*********************

A final emissions reduction target will be submitted, the U.S. said, once the U.S. Congress enacts domestic legislation requiring carbon pollution cuts. But such legislation has an uncertain fate in the Senate.

Todd Stern was also part of the Enron-Gore gang back in the late 1990’s pushing for cap and trade.

What does “formally embrace” mean? That Obama has put an arm around it?

Nothing happens unless congress passes the climate bill. And they are very unlikely to do that.

Sure, Obama is trying very, very hard to drive our country into a permanent great depression. But fortunately he is a blithering incompetent. He means badly, but after getting off to a fast start in the first six months with the help of Harry & Nancy, he has basically stalled and tanked.

Pull out yet another sharp stick and plunge it into the eye of the electorate! Yeah, that’s the ticket!

If this is what passes for a “bright” man by the “elites”, you have to really question their intelligence.

I fully expect the thin-skinned idiot to become even more strident for “climate change” restrictions just because the mean Republicans laughed out loud at him when he spoke of the “overwhelming scientific evidence” for AGW.

Yeah, our self-deluded president needs his cap snapped back again in the very next senate/house election.

It’s pretty daring to support the Copenhagen deal after Bo was booed at SOTU speech for mentioning his support of climate change...but then he has no clue just what he is doing from day to day..his advisers are not on the ball at all.

“it will aim for a 17 percent reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases blamed for global warming by 2020, with 2005 as the base year.”

All these people will be long gone by 2012. That is assuming we still have honest elections. They get the political credit from the environmental left and the MSM for approving it and someone else will have to deal with the problems of this unworkable nonsense. These reductions will never be passed by Congress.
By 2020, unless we have a communist dictatorship, Obama and the Democrats will be long out of power. They will just be sniping from the sidelines.
Just like Clinton and the Kyoto agreement. He agreed to it and then left Congress to not vote on it and the Democrats to make it a political issue.

The great zero is a true believer, aka fanatic. There is no reasoning with such an individual. That is why he is pressing ahead with a bunch of politically suicidal programs.

Republicans should try to have it brought up and made a recorded vote. That should be worth at least a 3-4 seat gain in November.
