Endorsement of McCain alienates Palin supporters
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 2010-01-26 | Jay Bookman

Sen. John McCain, the man who brought Sarah Palin to national prominence, is being challenged for re-election in the GOP primary by former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth. Palin recently announced that she plans to travel to Arizona to campaign on McCain’s behalf, but posters on her Facebook page are not at all happy with their Sarah:

“Sarah, it was fun, but now you are done.”

“Sarah, your support of McCain shows bad judgment and brings into question the validity of your words. You can forget any political ambition if you support Amnesty – which John McCain does. Conservatives don’t forget.”

“You do know Senator McCain is a PROGRESSIVE? It is very disappointing that you are campaigning for him instead of J.D. Hayworth. McCain needs to go!”

“Sorry to hear that you are supporting McCain. Up to now, I thought you were part of the solution, but you’ve shown yourself to be part of the problem.”

“McCain!? Are you kidding me? Time to pick a side, Sarah– Are you with the people, or against them?”

“I agree with those who advise you not to campaign for Senator McCain. He really doesn’t represent the views of grassroot conservatives. He represents those in the GOP who have too often been willing to compromise on principle, or even worse, have failed to really understand basic conservative principles.”

“McCain used Palin like a cheap tool to keep from getting beat worse than Reagan did to Mondale. His staff mocked her and showed no respect. Now McCain is using her again like a cheap tool and this time she is willingly doing it under the guise of loyalty. As long as McCain is the face of the GOP, conservatives are irrelevant. Palin is playing politics and this goes against what she “supposedly” represents. She helps elect McCain, she’s done.”

“I respect your loyalty to McCain, Sarah, but he really is using you. You need to do what you are obligated to do for him, and then run as far away from him as possible. He’s widely despised in the Conservative movement, and you’ll be hurting yourself badly with your support base if you do more than offer your token support or speak on his behalf.”

“McCain is not a commonsense candidate. If you support him your future as a conservative candidate is over.”

“Another day ~ another appeal to our girl from Wasilla: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not follow through with your plan to campaign for John McCain. In the insightful words of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman: “Big mistake. Big. Huge.” To do so will destroy your credibility, have your enemies carping: “I told you so,” and leave your fans devastated.”

That’s just a small sampling of some 2,500 comments, and I have to admit to being surprised by the vehemence and near-unanimity of that sentiment. It makes me think that McCain might eventually have real trouble in the Arizona primary.

Not as pathetic as not providing a conservative alternate/comparison.

I now have some thoughts I never thought I'd have with her. I don't like that feeling.

And that precisely is my point; that is what the liberals want to accomplish, to make Sarah stink to us. They need to injure her credibility, because she personally scares the hell out of them. They are trying to manipulate her supporters--to provide no support, no money, and NO VOTES. If they can make us mad and make us buy their BS, by tapping into and exploiting that justified wrath against Sarah, then they've won.

It’s not a popularity thing, it’s a constitutional thing. If the founders thought popularity was #1, their would be no need for a constitution besides a national vote.

Plus, the same popularity and statism you are promoting for this specific argument, is an exact argument for abortion as a national right.

Its not 50% of states, it’s called state elections. All abortions were illegal in most of them before your statist vision made it a national right.

The best you can do is answer a specific question about who you claim will be the next president, by claiming the question is really a statement?

You really think she would get away with that in an interview? Even she knows better and won’t run.

What made abortion legal was your anti social conservative Supreme Court.

I’m still amazed that you see infanticide, (or partial birth abortion) as a state right.

Your response is nonsense.

When somebody asks what a person has said and then uses the word "besides" and then only names 5 rudimentry things, that would suggest that the person can't name at least a sixth item.

These are your words. .

As I said, the "knowledgeable" sickoflibs tells us all he/she knows about Sarah Palin's comments on the issues of the day.

If you don't like Sarah Palin or if you don't think that Sarah Palin should be president, that's fine. But if misrepresent the numbers positions that she has taken, in her debates, speeches, interviews... I will call you out it.

You still haven’t answered the question I asked you in #354.

I’ll ask you again.

If Roe v. Wade was overturned would you be for a law in your state prohibiting abortion? (Yes or No)

“Yep. The rats divide and conquer seems to be working. Sheesh”

Well, keep up in mind that they may pick off a few light supporters but Palin will still dominate the Conservative base in the Primary.

Also, more importantly, the VERY VOCAL group of fringers on on here are just that. They produce about .07 % to the vote and are absolutely irrelavent. *The pollsters aleady have that portion of the vote baked in the cake.

Give them credit, they are very loud for being insignificant.

Could be Sarah wanted to get in good with the establishment Republicans should she herself choose to run for office later.

...and risk lopping off a sizable chunk of her base in the process. Wise move? Me thinks not! For me I'm now viewing Palin through a lens of wary suspicion.

She is IMO trying to gather more people under her tent.

I guess she figures people will forgive her for backing the guy who brought her to national attention...MAYBE?

We’re all guessing, but what do I know?

My guess is she is working to make money, not a real serious future Presidential bid.

You conveniently missed some years. 5 1/2 Years.

John S. McCain III, Lieut. Commander, U.S. Navy

John McCain spent 5½ years in captivity as a POW in North Vietnam. Shot down in his Skyhawk dive bomber on Oct. 26, 1967, Navy flier McCain was taken prisoner with fractures in his right leg and both arms. He received minimal care and was kept in wretched conditions

in his own words, based on almost total recall, is Commander McCain’s narrative of 5½ years in the hands of the North Vietnamese.

The date was Oct. 26, 1967. I was on my 23rd mission, flying right over the heart of Hanoi in a dive at about 4,500 feet, when a Russian missile the size of a telephone pole came up—the sky was full of them—and blew the right wing off my Skyhawk dive bomber. It went into an inverted, almost straight-down spin.

I pulled the ejection handle, and was knocked unconscious by the force of the ejection—the air speed was about 500 knots. I didn’t realize it at the moment, but I had broken my right leg around the knee, my right arm in three places, and my left arm. I regained consciousness just before I landed by parachute in a lake right in the corner of Hanoi, one they called the Western Lake. My helmet and my oxygen mask had been blown off.

I hit the water and sank to the bottom. I think the lake is about 15 feet deep, maybe 20. I kicked off the bottom. I took a breath of air and started sinking again. Of course, I was wearing 50 pounds, at least, of equipment and gear.

Some North Vietnamese swam out and pulled me to the side of the lake and immediately started stripping me, which is their standard procedure. Of course, this being in the center of town, a huge crowd of people gathered, and they were all hollering and screaming and cursing and spitting and kicking at me.

When they had most of my clothes off, I felt a twinge in my right knee. I sat up and looked at it, and my right foot was resting next to my left knee, just in a 90-degree position. I said, “My God—my leg!” That seemed to enrage them —I don’t know why.

One of them slammed a rifle butt down on my shoulder, and smashed it pretty badly. Another stuck a bayonet in my foot. The mob was really getting up-tight.

During 5 1/2 years as a POW John McCain was 2 years in
solitary confinement

a program of vigorous torture methods began on McCain, using rope bindings into painful positions and beatings every two hours, at the same time as he was suffering from dysentery. Teeth and bones were broken again

Various tortures throughout those years along with
left arm was broken again and ribs were cracked.

So are we to give McCain a 'Pass Card for Life' because of his military service?
He was a POW, so that allows him to propose any legislation, (even unconstitutional legislation), without critique?
