CBS Urged to Scrap Super Bowl Ad With Tebow, Mom
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: January 25, 2010
NEW YORK (AP) -- A national coalition of women's groups called on CBS on Monday to scrap its plan to broadcast an ad during the Super Bowl featuring college football star Tim Tebow and his mother, which critics say is likely to convey an anti-abortion message.
''An ad that uses sports to divide rather than to unite has no place in the biggest national sports event of the year -- an event designed to bring Americans together,'' said Jehmu Greene, president of the New York-based Women's Media Center.
The center was coordinating the protest with backing from the National Organization for Women, the Feminist Majority and other groups.
CBS said it has approved the script for the 30-second ad and has given no indication that the protest would have an impact. A network spokesman, Dana McClintock, said CBS would ensure that any issue-oriented ad was ''appropriate for air.''
The ad -- paid for by the conservative Christian group Focus on the Family -- is expected to recount the story of Pam Tebow's pregnancy in 1987 with a theme of ''Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life.'' The controversy over the ad was raised Sunday when Tebow met with reporters in Mobile, Ala., before beginning preparations for next weekend's Senior Bowl.
''I know some people won't agree with it, but I think they can at least respect that I stand up for what I believe,'' Tebow said. ''I've always been very convicted of it (his views on abortion) because that's the reason I'm here, because my mom was a very courageous woman. So any way that I could help, I would do it.''

“I’ve always been very convicted of it...”
I did not know the young man was saved. Plus he has all that talent? I hope my Seahawks pick him up in the draft.
I wonder why the pro-aborts are so afraid?
Pro-life ping.
The keyword for the FREE REPUBLIC HOMESCHOOLERS FORUM is frhf.
The only thing that should matter to CBS is if the group has paid the fee/advertising charge and if the ad is within FCC guidelines. The message itself is and should be irrelevent to CBS. If you don’t like the message, don’t watch!
Pretty soon, libs will say conservatives shouldn’t be able to run their political ads during election season because they “divide”. Garbage.
Can you imagine waking up next to that?
Shortly after posting this letter to CBS other liberal groups wrote letters of protest to the network and the NFL that the Super Bowl gave an unfair sense of self-esteem to the winning city and depression to the losing city.
They demanded the game be able to result in a tie, flag football rules instead of tackle and everyone who came out for the team would be allowed on the field for one play so they could receive their participation trophies.
Indeed! Thank you for the ping, dear brother in Christ!
‘’That’s not being respectful of other people’s lives,’’ O’Neill said. ‘’It is offensive to hold one way out as being a superior way over everybody else’s.’’
IOW, don’t try to condemn me. Lol! Celebrating life is a indictment of the pro death camp and they can’t handle it.
That truly made me LOL!
If this true story doesn't bring a tear to your eye something is wrong with you.
Clearly Mrs. Tebow has committed a couple serious sins. She has had more than one child. She has remained married to her husband of all her children. She didn't have an abortion when doctors suggested it. /sarc.
I guess I've been born to the wrong generation. I can remember when we would rejoice at this type of a Christian witness.
It shows how out of touch liberals are with normal people!
Let's all hold hands and agree on which team we want to win. /s
They are offended by everything. They have forced studios to edit old shows and movies before selling them to us on DVD.
They are nuts. Absolute wackos.
I’m not surprised that this is happening. Last year groups tried to put a different pro-life commercial on (basically saying that had Obama been conceived after 1973 he probably would have been killed) and that got yanked.
It’s rather ironic when you think about it, last year and this year are the ONLY years since the early 1970s when Super Bowl commercials weren’t sold out months in advance and here we see networks wanting to turn down millions of dollars because they don’t like the fact that the Tebows are devout Christians.
They are just afraid of the truth.
Isn’t having a baby one of the choices these “pro-choice” feminists are allowed to support? /s
This women’s group wishes he’d never been born.
An inconvenient truth.
The ad is not going to get pulled...CBS needs any and all revenue during this garbage economy.
I don't know a thing about jai-alai, but I compared the NFL to WWE & NASCAR after Sunday's game.
2) Will CBS listen to a bunch of leftie dykes who would be watching the Puppy Bowl anyway?
