There's lots of reason Scott Brown won Teddy Kennedy's old Senate seat this week -- health care reform, cap-and-trade, the deficit, exasperation with Democratic rule. But there's one other that shouldn't be missed -- he ran as a guy and it's OK to be a regular guy again.
A month ago in a column called "Put Men Back to Work" I wrote that taking up the cause of unemployed men should be a major campaign issue of the 2010 election. I also said I thought Sarah Palin was the only candidate who could handle the issue because it would seem too hard-edged coming from a man. I was wrong. Although Brown didn't say it in so many words, the message came through loud and clear -- ordinary guys have a place in this world outside beer commercials.
First there was the truck. Ah, the truck. Could anything have been more politically incorrect? It wasn't some fuel-sipping Honda Civic or even a gas-electric hybrid. Brown didn't spend time talking about gas mileage. It was just a work-a-day truck built to get you someplace and do the job.
And wasn't it amazing how, when President Obama arrived in Massachusetts to try to save Martha Coakley's neck, he couldn't stop talking about that truck? "I'd be careful getting on that truck," he said. "He parked his truck on Wall Street." Obama mentioned it six times in his speech at Northeastern University.
Yet Brown had the perfect comeback. "I don't mind when the President came in and criticized me," he said the night of his celebration. "But when he starts criticizing my truck, that's where I draw the line."
In fact, the whole Brown campaign had a distinct beer-commercial flavor. A former juvenile delinquent, college basketball player, triathlete, and 20-year Army reservist,

LOL....Bammy IS a Girly Man!!!! REAL men can’t stand him.
You can’t fool Mother Nature, and you can’t change human nature. As bad as the Left wants to make sensitive new-age guys and metrosexuals the accepted norm, and portray real men as angry freaks, it isn’t going to stick in the long run because it is not an accurate depiction of human nature. The people of Massachusetts reacted instinctively to a male candidate who is a real man, in the best sense of the word.
The title is deceptive. The article details the many ways in which men and the work they traditionally do are being sabotaged. It contains really alarming information on our energy problems. This country is under attack and facing collapse, and it will take decades to undo the damage done by the subversive acts of the Left, even if we started right now.
Both are top corporate bimbos who damn near wrecked their respective enterprises before being golden-parachuted onto us. Good with PowerPoint, bad for business.
If that's indeed 0bama, the weird Frank Marshall Davis scenario starts to make a bit of sense.
Is it really hard to see that the last 30 years of socialist Utopian public policy has failed miserably? We’re declining at a faster rate than many former great societies. It’s about time that the realistic, rugged, ADULT men come back to the ruling class. It’s been 30 years of feminist garbage that has put us in this touchy-feely failed socialist experiment.
The hardest thing about being a Republic is that you absolutely have to be willing to fight for your freedom. I’ll fight for my freedom, thanks, the “State” cannot protect me as well as I can myself.
We need more adult men to get into politics.
Oh, and Mr. Senator, could I mention one more thing? Please don't let all those beautiful women in Washington turn your head so you end up the next John Edwards, Eliot Spitzer, Tiger Woods -- or for that matter, John F. Kennedy. Show them that real men have integrity, too.
Integrity. If we restore an aspiration for integrity, we will get a our country back as swiftly as Obama destroyed it.
He needs to adopt the Billy Graham rule - never be alone in a room with a woman other than your wife.
Two mistakes CA doesn’t need.
I don’t know a hellava lot about Scott Brown but I LOVED his answer to the annoying media about his Cosmos attire:...that it was 30 yrs ago, and he wish he looked like that again....
I would imagine Scott has had women chasing him all his life. As hard as the left looked, they could find nothing whatsoever on him.
is that a real pic of our zero?....what a punk....

However, over the past 20-30 years, many men have become feminized sissies and this has artificially inflated the "women" vote out there. For example, no real man would ever vote for the likes of a John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Al Gore or Barack Obama.
The sad fact is that most women (not all) and feminized men tend to vote for candidates that promise to nurture and take care of them. They find socialism and nanny government preferable to the pressure of having to go out in the world and make their own way. They are willing to give up their basic rights in order to achieve some perceived "cradle-to-grave" security.
This is the problem our forefathers warned us about. So if real men are making a comeback, this is a good thing for all of us.
Being in Massachusetts, I can tell you that without exception, men who vote for Barack Obama, John Kerry, Mike Dukakis, etc., are limp-wristed girly men who probably wouldn't survive a night out in the woods. Just this morning at the Dunkin Donuts, there was a man who showed up in flip-flops, a pinkish tie-dyed shirt and colorful shorts. Yes, it's the middle of winter, but this "man" evidently spends his entire life indoors with only brief periods outdoors running to and from his heated automobile. I didn't have to ask who he voted for in last Tuesday's election.
I dunno-that pic just makes me want to puke.
I wish I looked like I did 30 years ago too, but time waits for no one.
Or Sarah Palin.
