Top Gun fighter pilot takes aim in Florida’s Congressional District 24 (Tom Garcia)
The Shark Tank ^ | 01/20/10 | Javier Manjarres

This past weekend, the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) held its quarterly meeting up in Orlando. While there, I was able to meet up with Tom Garcia, a candidate for Congress in Florida’s 24th Congressional District. Garcia faces a primary battle with two other establishment-type politicos, and should he win, he will face Democrat incumbent Suzanne Kosmas. Garcia is a married father of two and a former Navy fighter pilot.

My initial impression of Garcia as a politician was very favorable- I was impressed with his candor and frankness, qualities you don’t often see with aspiring politicians who are usually very slick with their words to interested reporters. Garcia also came across to me as a candidate who is genuinely concerned for the safety and well-being of his country. His style and tone is free of BS and the usual political double-talk, and he presents himself as just a regular guy who exudes confidence in both how he speaks and carries himself. In fact, it reminds me of another guy I know down in Miami who is also running for a certain office. Hmmmm…I wonder who that could be?

I think we will begin to see more and more of this kind of pol from our side of the aisle. I know in the district next to mine we had just such a candidate but he lost in the Obama wave. Hopefully he runs again because he is a good man cut from the same cloth (Lee Zeldin).

Does he oppose Obama, Clintons and Bill Clintons “step brother” Bush flooding FL with Haitians and other illegals? The state is broke and employers are fleeing due to the TEN times increase in unemployment taxes in just a few months. Once those employers flee and small business go under, real estate prices will tank and retirees will flee. Thanks illegal immigration.

I may be leaving Florida soon because of it. I planned on creating at least 5 jobs here in this nightmare economy. I will do it elsewhere.

Illegal aliens are destroying FL. They are destroying real estate values. Why do I want to live in Little Haiti or Sao Paulo?

Crist is an a*s and Marco Rubio is silent about Obama’s Mariel/Port du Prince boatlift.

I remember the Mariel boatlift.

Well Charlie Crist is a gringo and he is silent on the illegal invasion of Florida like Rubio. Silent on the Haitian invasion.

I am truly sorry for the people of Haiti. That being said, the whole thing is going to turn into a worse CF than it is now.

I have a sick feeling that the UN and other groups are going to use this situation as a huge money grab.

Why are they not moving the survivors OUT of the city? The whole island is not damaged. There would be less congestion for supplies plus, by spreading them out, the would be less volatile. I know our military can get camps set up in no time along with field hospitals. With the citizens out of the way they can begin cleaning up.

I would not trust the UN as far as I could spit! It is in their best interest to milk this. The Red Cross has NO BUSINESS relocating citizens from another country anywhere!! They are just as corrupt as the UN.

The liberal newsmedia, UN, Obama, American Red Cross and others are writing the script for this. FL newspapers too.
I do not believe any reports coming out of Haiti.

It is all Wag The Dog like the way Clinton staged Kosovo and bombed the Serbs.

Who benefitted - Muslim KLA who were friends of Bin Laden and trans ship Afghani heroin through there to Europe. We helped Islamic terrorists in that “war.”

Florida is so screwed already by illegal aliens. Maybe Sarah can come to FL with Juan McCain and campaign for Crist. Not that Rubio is probably any better.

I had to quit watching. The news reporters there were making me more ill than the victims of the earthquake. It has become can you top this and then they bitch about lack of supplies.

The one guy was whining about an orphanage with 20 kids...I thought, if YOU can get to it, why don’t YOU bring them some freaking water and food!!!

The media trucks are EVERYWHERE yet the people there to help can’t get out of the airport???? Hello

One of the two GOP frontrunners for the seat that the article derides as “establishment candidates,” state Representative Sandy Adams, was a long-time Deputy Sherrif who is a solid conservative. The other frontrunner, a county supervisor whose name eludes me, is a conservative female Republican with a history of electoral success within the district. Garcia sounds like an interestng candidate, but with two first-tier conservatives running already maybe he should try for another office in his first attempt at running for public office.

Karen Diebel, Winter Park City Commissioner is only other woman I see listed.

Yeah. With state leg term limits the seats come open often. A lot of good candidates could have good careers in public office if they first aimed for offices they could win more easily.

Right, Karen Diebel. City Commissioner, not County Commissioner as I had said.

Either Diebel or Sandy Adams would win the general and make terrific Congresswomen. I would rather go with Adams, but Diebel would be fine as well.
