With the window of survivability still open for Haitians trapped in the rubble of last week's catastrophic earthquake, the UN and FEMA are telling search and rescue teams waiting to deploy to Haiti to forget about it.
Reports out of Houston are saying that one of the premier search and rescue units in the world has been on standby since shortly after the quake but was never called.
Texas TV station KTRK gave this description of Texas Task Force 1:
The TX-TF1 team which was activated for this deployment was a Type I Urban Search and Rescue Team which is comprised of 80 personnel, 4 search and rescue canines, search and technical rescue personnel, physicians, paramedics, structural engineers, other support personnel, and approximately 50 tons of rescue equipment and supplies. The team is self-sustaining for 14 days and deployable by aircraft to anywhere within 4 hours of activation. The task force has also deployed nationally over 70 times, to include the Shuttle Columbia disaster, the World Trade Center, Hurricanes Katrina and Ike.
KTRK and The Houston Chronicle are both reporting:
"The United Nations mission in the country has declared the search and rescue teams already in the nation are sufficient to handle the task and the Texas team and others prepared to deploy would not be needed."
Anyone paying attention over the weekend knows that people were still being rescued, and others that rescuers knew were alive died while waiting to be rescued.
This is yet one more example of Barack Obama failing to take the bull by the horns and get promised help to the Haitians quickly and efficiently.
Reuters notes that there is talk that Obama's response could end up hurting him politically:
This could be a foreign policy Katrina for Obama," said Larry Birns, director of the Council on Hemispheric Affairs, a Washington think tank.
Birns said already there were negative headlines coming out of Haiti because aid is flowing too slowly.
"The Obama administration cannot allow itself to be tarnished by the kind of headlines that Bush was getting because of Katrina," he said.
The Obama administration has made a show of portraying Obama as hands-on in the relief effort, even releasing a timeline of his phone calls and meetings on Haiti since the quake struck.
Obama spent yesterday campaigning, first in a Black church in Washington, D.C. and then in Boston for Democrat U.S. Senate nominee Martha Coakley.
We need President Obama to get our families out of there. This is the United States of America, the greatest country in the world. And we need our children and fathers home.”
I am not sure that we can expect this anymore
Do you have a link that shows that Haitians are being brought to this shore?
Remember Rescue operations after the Tsunami in INDONESIA...
OBAMAO is only a wordy babling empty wishfull-thinking,fake bleeding-heart, libtard trying to use and fuel mediatic emotions in order to fool some crowds

Sick and pathetic, isn’t it? When politics and agenda get mixed into a place where only compassion should be.
“Obama made sure he included President Bush in the relief efforts for Haiti.
Somehow, it WILL be Bush’s fault. Will we ever learn?”
++++++++++++++++
Well, whatever Bush’s stripes politically or whether he should or shouldn’t have accepted the Hypocrite in Chief’s invitation to help, he is showing himself once again to be a gracious man. Even in the face of all the RAT hypocrisy.
The bureaucrats can't even relinquish a little of their power to our military in order to RESCUE suffering people. Their arrogance is beyond belief.
Are you listening HILLARY?!
BTW, Bill Clinton is on his way to Haiti today to GET IN THE WAY while telling everyone else to stay out because they aren't needed if they can't provide medical care.
doesn't want a TEXAS search and rescue effort so that govenor Goodhair Perry can't have that on his resume when he runs for president in the next election.
Obama is out at Michelle’s birthday party with the commie friends that work in White (Black) House. Why didn’t he donate the birthday party money to Haiti?
Because he don’t pay for the eats at restaurant & all the perks.
what a jerk - all of them.
I’ve been asked this a few times now
Is there any way for free republic to have this news poster for all to read please?
there’s numerous threads on here and links to those articles about how obama is bringing them over to Florida
45,000 to this state alone
some are already here
http://www2.tbo.com/content/2010/jan/17/na-haitians-might-arrive-at-tampa/
http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2010/jan/15/crist-plans-to-shelter-haitian-refugees-in-florida/
there’s numerous links and if I had more time I would post them but look at Orlando newspapers, Miami’s newspapers
I maybe saw ONE family actually trying to dig out their relative.
If this had happened anywhere in America (outside of an inner city, or hell hole like New Orleans), thousands of Americans would of been digging through the rubble within minutes of the first shock.
I’m just concerned about when the zombies start coming up. How long after death before that starts? Anyone know?
I heard last night they were blaming Bush for the Mass election if Brown wins tomorrow,
When Obama spoke at the colored church yesterday & the campaign he brought up his large inheired debt from Bush.
I bet if BO can not have a bowel movement it would be Bush’s fault.
BTW
There’s a thread on here with a link and CNN reporting how Haitians left there last night and have now arrived in our country this morning.

here’s another link of haitians being planned in their thousands coming to florida

Folks, please stop comparing this to Katrina. This is a foreign country where we have no true 'obligation' (other than moral) to help these people- which, of course, we should.
Obama in not in charge of worldwide relief efforts.
I'm not defending him, far from it. He has failed epic.
But comparing Katrina and Haiti is apples and oranges.
Herding people around to influence elections in any particular state is the democrap way don’tchaknow. If Barry can plant enough Haitians in FL and make them voters (through community activism, read ACORN poison), he can take Florida in the elections. Haitians mean nothing more than votes to Barry and the DNC.
They were sent to Mass to find out where the dem voters went to.
I think more evident he can’t juggle more than one ball at a time. Trying to ram health care through,Mass. election and Haiti all at once. Hes most probably too confused to do any one thing well. Sort of,not up to the task.
Good thing is we’ll probably have an earthquake czar and a dem is supposed to be winning czar rather soon.
never let a crisis go to waste remember
now the white house is trying to bring thousands upon thousands to florida, why this state, ? Does it have to do with us being a swing state and not LA where creole is common as is french and voodoo?
Why are we now bringing them in their thousands over here when we cannot afford to?
We can’t even hire cops or teachers, our schools cannot afford the utility bills.
our medical services are being cut.
but
we are supposed to now feed, clothe house thousands of them in this state alone.
We are supposed to put kids in our school who are 5 years behind on education and cannot speak English.
We’re supposed to give them health and pay their bills when we’re doing cuts.
This is all about politics and the ones who are being taken in by the media are falling for this.
the NAACP, Black caucus has for years been trying to get them over here and now they are using this tragedy to bring them over here.
Are we supposed to give them foreclosed homes and will they be added to the census coming up thus changing districts and money.
I find it amazing how some are thinking the island was a paradise, it was an island full of crime and murder.
Why would we bring them here when they need to rebuild their country
