Brown Has 9.6% Lead in New Poll (WOWSERS!!!)
InsideMedford ^ | 1-17.2010 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 01/17/2010 5:02:19 PM PST by tcrlaf

A poll conducted by the Merriman River Group (MRG) and InsideMedford.com indicates that Scott Brown leads Martha Coakley 50.8% – 41.2% in the contest to fill the seat of the late Senator Ted Kennedy. Liberty Party candidate Joe Kennedy pulls in just 1.8% support, while 6.2% of voters are still not sure.

Brown and Coakley both have most of their supporters locked in. 98% of both candidate’s supporters say they are definitely or probably going to vote for their candidate. In contrast, 22% of Kennedy’s supporters are just leaning toward him, suggesting that Brown and Coakley may both want to take aim at swaying those voters.

Not surprisingly, nearly all of Coakley’s supporters approve of President Obama’s job performance, while three-quarters of Brown’s supporters disapprove. Coakley may see a glimmer of hope in the fact that more than two-thirds of undecided voters approve of the president’s job performance while only 6% disapprove, especially in light of the president’s swing through the state to campaign for her later today.

47% of Brown’s supporters say that taxes, jobs, and the economy represent the most important issue to them in this race, while half of Coakley’s supporters say that healthcare reform is most important to them. Undecided voters are nearly evenly split between the two issues—40% say they’re most concerned with taxes, jobs, and the economy with 37% saying that healthcare reform that most concerns them. “For Coakley to have a chance, she needs to convince voters that the Democratic party’s agenda for the economy is the right one, and she needs to do it fast,” said MRG’s executive director, Matt Fitch.

The recent dust-up between the candidates over abortion laws seems to have had minimal impact on the race. Only 8% of Brown’s supporters and 5% of Coakley’s supporters say it’s the most important issue to them.

Here's the internals. They make a lot more sense than ARG's seem to.

Obama got his rear end handed to him by hecklers at his “rally”. It took less than a year, and America has started to wake up. I’m not saying Bush, Republicans, or even conservatives have all the answers. Far from it. But at the very least it didn’t take long to hit a U-turn from the destructive road a majority of the nation mistakenly turned down.

Nice! But I am still worried about ACORN, Black Panthers and the other vermin who corrupt voting as a living.

If you don’t want to tell the liberals the election is on Wednesday, then tell them to vote for Joe Kennedy to “Keep Ted’s seat in the Kennedy family”... :0)

Living here I would say Brown is up by 2-3 points. This thing could go either way and it ALL depends on who turns out.

I don’t know if a 10 percent lead will be enough to cover all the voter fraud on Tuesday.

Over-polled Republicans and under-polled Dems...it’s closer than this implies.

And they are out in full force pulling out all of the stops. That is why we have to act like we are down by 3. This is a winnable race at this point but it certanly can go either way here. At this point whoever has the better GOTV effort will win (and Brown seems to have all of the energy).

Never heard of either organization, but I’d be wary. Medford is just north of Boston and is solid D country. (mix of old-line D’s and nouveau moonbats)

I doubt the Dims can manufacture enough votes to overcome a 9% difference. But I’m not convinced it’s a 9% race.

I don’t trust pollsters.

Maybe they’re blowing smoke up our butts and creating false expectations.

Beware.

The only poll that counts is Tuesday, and there are ‘Rats in charge of that one - look for them to delay certification as long as possible if Brown comes out on top.
