Really, there's precious little fairness in the world. People tend to be slaves to emotion, and prejudices often reign supreme, even (in fact, especially) in those who rail against prejudice. This is why we'll see millions of Americans reflexively dismiss a politician simply because of the letter following his name. It is why people will often oppose a position they would otherwise support simply because it's being advocated by someone they dislike. Ah, that troublesome human nature.
This brings us to Sarah Palin, the Wasilla woman often billed as the best hope of the GOP. She certainly isn't one of those plain vanilla characters who inspire blasé reactions, that's for sure. It's just so often the case that people either love her or hate her, believe she is the cat's meow or the pig with lipstick, a political sensation or a puerile simpleton. I'm in neither camp.
Scrape away the emotionalism, and one realizes that Palin isn't at either extreme. Underestimated by the left and overestimated by the right, the truth about her lies somewhere in between. Where, exactly? That is secondary, because there is a more important point here relating to Palin's political future.
She doesn't have one.
I know this will raise the hackles of many, but you can forget Sarah Palin. I say this not because of her defects in ideology or lack of competency, but for a very simple reason: She has been Quayled.
Many of you know that I'm referring to what ensued after former Vice President Dan Quayle gave a public appearance at a school spelling bee in Trenton, New Jersey in 1992.

Frankly, if she is trying to gain a national political office from the chair of a political commentator...she is smarter than that. She knows she will be paid well and she and her family will not come under the scrutiny of being a political candidate. So she won't be going anywhere - at least not in 2 short years. I will donate $100 to the local Tea Party candidate if I am wrong.
Sounds like the opium pipe dreams of the soon to be defrocked RNC. - If these alleged candidates exist, how come no one knows of them? _ why is Palin's popularity skyrocketing? Its pure drivel, and you know it.
Glenn didn't seem overwhelmed by her, or did I misunderstand him.
She needs to earn her spurs and, I for one, believe she knows it and can do it! -SDS #11
... You take other peoples comments out of context to elevate yourself. ... -SDS wailing again...
You say the article is correct (She has no future in politics), and say "I hope she can ...", as if she's already been written off by the majority of voters. You and the author of this drek are the minority.
Your disclaimer is disingenuous, if you think it's tempered by your "I hope". So does Zero. He also "changes". That's why we need Sarah Palin, a proven winner.
I am surely a penitent, but not over your pile of bovine excrement!
Your PDS is showing through...
Naaah.
YOU are useless.
Everything you have posted on this thread is utter mindless rubbish
“The Nov 19 Opinion/Dynamics poll asked if “you have a generally favorable or unfavorable opinion” of the following people.
Who was in first place? Oprah. 61. Nothing about whether they would vote for the person.”
Umm...no. Sarah Palin was compared to every current top politician in that polls for approve/disapprove ratings.
And I quote:
“Despite being characterized by many as a divisive force in her party and the nation, Americans are much more likely to give Palin a positive rating (47 percent favorable) than another prominent female leader — Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (28 percent favorable). Moreover, about six in 10 Americans (61 percent) think Palin has been treated unfairly by the press, according to the latest Fox News poll
*******************************
Palin has been mentioned as a possible presidential candidate in 2012, along with a host of other Republicans. Among self-identified Republicans in the survey, Palin gets the highest favorable ratings (70 percent) amid a group of other possible contenders for the GOP nomination, including Mike Huckabee (63 percent), Mitt Romney (60 percent) and Newt Gingrich (58 percent). Palin’s favorable score among all voters is 47 percent, up nine percentage points over last July's reading of 38 percent.
Another woman who has often been called divisive over the years is Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. When asked if they'd rather spend the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday with Palin or Clinton, the choice does provoke considerable division — with each attracting about 40 percent to a hypothetical turkey fest
**********************************
President Obama recently stated that he “probably won't” read Sarah Palin’s new book. But his possible opponent in the 2012 elections trails him in personal favorability by only seven points (54 percent to 47 percent). Among the critical segment of independent voters, they are virtually even (Obama at 50 percent; Palin at 49 percent).”
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/11/19/fox-news-poll-palin-going-rogue/
Sarah Palin was polling the same with 0bama amongst independents, and that was even before 0bama’s poll numbers really collapsed in December. She could possibly be doing better amongst voters today than 0bama is.
In addition to all that, of course Sarah Palin polled amongst independents as the most admired woman in America, easily clobbering Oprah, with plenty of room to spare.
IMHO, the people are starting to wise up to the “he/she is a dummy” tactic of the left. I think she has a future as a political leader. I think she is going to overcome the slime attacks.
I think Glenn Beck was in awe of her, frankly.
Did we watch the same interview? :)
I had to laugh, Glenn started out serious but noted that Governor Palin and himself, were the top two Halloween costumes last year.
It was a great interview. Beck can come across as something of a loose cannon. But I suppose so also would our founding fathers have seemed.
The system is well and truly broken. The GOP is in a coma.
The two of them do represent a very positive change on our side. They may or may not represent our eventual winning candidates, but to downplay their contributions really seems counter-productive.
I love Palin because she’s real, has backbone and she’s not business as usual. I also think she’s an honest person.
I’ve started to take a liking to DeMint because he has started showing some backbone, though I’m not sure I trust his him.
I love Michele Bachmann, I think she’s smart as hell and feisty like Palin. I also think she’s honest— but I fear many think she’s a little over the top.
I’m still watching...
I never said I didn’t believe in Palin, that’s the problem for me— passions get so fueled, people don’t take the time to see. That isn’t Palin’s problem and I don’t put that on her.
If liberals were not truly threatened by Palin, they would not be trying to destroy her. They would be pretending to be “afraid” of her and what it would mean for Obama. If liberals thought she couldn’t win, they would be ignoring her.
Zero executive experience between them!
As opposed to proven executive talent for Palin, and an admirable record of accomplishment in cleaning up government.
You put up a few cub scouts to counter Joan of Arc?
UH...NOT according to recent info...there are NOT “more of them then (sic) of us”.....PLUS as others have said...the INTERNET is getting information out faster and allowing for more truth to be EXPOSED.
Right you are.
No politician can get the support of everyone.
All she needs to do is win 50.1% of the vote and get more electoral votes than anyone else, the remaining 49.9% (including you) can vote for who they like.
“Frankly, if she is trying to gain a national political office from the chair of a political commentator...she is smarter than that’
Umm.. Ronald Regan was a radio commentator for 3 years, after he lost to Gerald Ford in 1976, and came right back in 1980, and totally destroyed Jimmy Carter.
“So she won't be going anywhere - at least not in 2 short years. “
She doesn't need to go anywhere till 2012.
It’s like football.
One gets up and yells, for our side. :)
Especially after not having a winning team for so long...
The other side doesn’t play the game according to the rules. We do, and have, but shouldn’t neglect to notice ... and throw a few elbows back.
It’s important to win.
The fact is the Palin herself has essentially taken herself out of the running and has stated that she will play a supporting role until she decides otherwise.
Personally I don't see her running again for POTUS but I would like to see her cobble together a Senate run from Alaska or from wherever she wants. She would make a good one.
2012 is several weeks away. Using Scott Brown as an example, how long have many of us known he existed until a couple weeks or a month ago? Maybe you knew him but I did not and now I find myself rooting for his election.
At this point no one knows who might come to the front as a candidate. It may be Palin, it may be another we aren't aware of at this time.
I intend to wait and watch in the months ahead, not set in stone today who I will vote for when that time comes.
Rush owns the biggest ‘soapbox’ in the world, and those that attack him end up looking foolish, but Sarah owns the next biggest soapbox and her recognition is on the upswing!
Sarah is on Fox now. What she should do is “take a scalp”.
Just set up some airhead newsie and ruin them. Just have the Fox team browbeat somebody after they say one of the many obvious falsehoods that have been propagated.
Fear = Respect.
Where there was once a line of subtle difference between Paliniacs and the Tea Partiers, that progressively dimmer glimmer of distinction is about to be snuffed out completely when Madame President Elect speaks in a few weeks at the Tea Party Convention.
Regarding Brown's crushing of Coakley on Tuesday, I drove to church today on the highway (Rte 20) and drove home from church on all back roads. I passed through 6 Worcester County towns en-route. Round-trip, I counted 37 lawn signs. Here's the breakdown:
Coakley - 0
Brown - 37
I'm not even joking. Granted, there is a slobbering Dembicile enclave nearer to Boston where there exists a likely more even split, but Coakley is TOAST.
The GOP taking over that seat, with Palin pushing the Tea Party to restore the GOP instead of going 3rd Party, and we have a juggernaut that not even the Ass-puppet Media and RINO Old Boy Cabal can slow down. We'll just steamroll them.
In a few weeks, the story will be short and succinct.
"Get on board, or get out of the way. There is no third option."
How sweet it is. That commie chimp in the White House turns out to be the best friend the Republican Party ever had. Even Clinton's giving the GOP both houses of Congress for the first time in 4 decades pales in comparison. O'Bonebrain has turned the whole country, including Massachusetts, into a conservative leviathan.
Mmmm, mmm, mmm-- Barrack Hoosane O'Bonebrain!
ROFLMFWAO!!!!
;-/
Not to worry, she'll only be one candidate. And she will be the next President, so get over it.
;-/
If the left succeeds Palin won’t be Qualyed or Borked. She will be Harrised as in Katherine Harris.
She will be portrayed as an airhead religious nut. Sarah really needs to study that Florida senate campaign to avoid the same traps from the media and from the Republican party leadership that didn’t support Harris.
