The Quayled Lady: Why You Should Forget Sarah Palin

Really, there's precious little fairness in the world. People tend to be slaves to emotion, and prejudices often reign supreme, even (in fact, especially) in those who rail against prejudice. This is why we'll see millions of Americans reflexively dismiss a politician simply because of the letter following his name. It is why people will often oppose a position they would otherwise support simply because it's being advocated by someone they dislike. Ah, that troublesome human nature.

This brings us to Sarah Palin, the Wasilla woman often billed as the best hope of the GOP. She certainly isn't one of those plain vanilla characters who inspire blasé reactions, that's for sure. It's just so often the case that people either love her or hate her, believe she is the cat's meow or the pig with lipstick, a political sensation or a puerile simpleton. I'm in neither camp.

Scrape away the emotionalism, and one realizes that Palin isn't at either extreme. Underestimated by the left and overestimated by the right, the truth about her lies somewhere in between. Where, exactly? That is secondary, because there is a more important point here relating to Palin's political future.

She doesn't have one.

I know this will raise the hackles of many, but you can forget Sarah Palin. I say this not because of her defects in ideology or lack of competency, but for a very simple reason: She has been Quayled.

Many of you know that I'm referring to what ensued after former Vice President Dan Quayle gave a public appearance at a school spelling bee in Trenton, New Jersey in 1992.

That's right, what I as an individual think is not relevant, its an opinion. Like everyone else who has one, it's worth what it cost.

Frankly, if she is trying to gain a national political office from the chair of a political commentator...she is smarter than that. She knows she will be paid well and she and her family will not come under the scrutiny of being a political candidate. So she won't be going anywhere - at least not in 2 short years. I will donate $100 to the local Tea Party candidate if I am wrong.

Your disclaimer is disingenuous, if you think it's tempered by your "I hope". So does Zero. He also "changes". That's why we need Sarah Palin, a proven winner.

Umm...no. Sarah Palin was compared to every current top politician in that polls for approve/disapprove ratings.

Sarah Palin was polling the same with 0bama amongst independents, and that was even before 0bama’s poll numbers really collapsed in December. She could possibly be doing better amongst voters today than 0bama is.
In addition to all that, of course Sarah Palin polled amongst independents as the most admired woman in America, easily clobbering Oprah, with plenty of room to spare.

I had to laugh, Glenn started out serious but noted that Governor Palin and himself, were the top two Halloween costumes last year.

It was a great interview. Beck can come across as something of a loose cannon. But I suppose so also would our founding fathers have seemed.

The system is well and truly broken. The GOP is in a coma.

The two of them do represent a very positive change on our side. They may or may not represent our eventual winning candidates, but to downplay their contributions really seems counter-productive.

I love Palin because she’s real, has backbone and she’s not business as usual. I also think she’s an honest person.

I’ve started to take a liking to DeMint because he has started showing some backbone, though I’m not sure I trust his him.

I love Michele Bachmann, I think she’s smart as hell and feisty like Palin. I also think she’s honest— but I fear many think she’s a little over the top.

I’m still watching...

I never said I didn’t believe in Palin, that’s the problem for me— passions get so fueled, people don’t take the time to see. That isn’t Palin’s problem and I don’t put that on her.

If liberals were not truly threatened by Palin, they would not be trying to destroy her. They would be pretending to be “afraid” of her and what it would mean for Obama. If liberals thought she couldn’t win, they would be ignoring her.

Umm.. Ronald Regan was a radio commentator for 3 years, after he lost to Gerald Ford in 1976, and came right back in 1980, and totally destroyed Jimmy Carter.

I hate to even participate on these Palin threads because they have become sucker bait for these thin skinned novices.

The fact is the Palin herself has essentially taken herself out of the running and has stated that she will play a supporting role until she decides otherwise.

Personally I don't see her running again for POTUS but I would like to see her cobble together a Senate run from Alaska or from wherever she wants. She would make a good one.

2012 is several weeks away. Using Scott Brown as an example, how long have many of us known he existed until a couple weeks or a month ago? Maybe you knew him but I did not and now I find myself rooting for his election.

At this point no one knows who might come to the front as a candidate. It may be Palin, it may be another we aren't aware of at this time.

I intend to wait and watch in the months ahead, not set in stone today who I will vote for when that time comes.

They're pulling out all the stops, because Brown's landslide victory in Massachusetts is going to dump about a million metric tons of gasoline on the already raging Tea Party/Palin conflagration that has been roaring across this land actually since McCain announced her as his 2nd in Command.

Where there was once a line of subtle difference between Paliniacs and the Tea Partiers, that progressively dimmer glimmer of distinction is about to be snuffed out completely when Madame President Elect speaks in a few weeks at the Tea Party Convention.

Regarding Brown's crushing of Coakley on Tuesday, I drove to church today on the highway (Rte 20) and drove home from church on all back roads. I passed through 6 Worcester County towns en-route. Round-trip, I counted 37 lawn signs. Here's the breakdown:

Coakley - 0
Brown - 37

I'm not even joking. Granted, there is a slobbering Dembicile enclave nearer to Boston where there exists a likely more even split, but Coakley is TOAST.

The GOP taking over that seat, with Palin pushing the Tea Party to restore the GOP instead of going 3rd Party, and we have a juggernaut that not even the Ass-puppet Media and RINO Old Boy Cabal can slow down. We'll just steamroll them.

In a few weeks, the story will be short and succinct.
