EDITORIAL: Menacing turn in Black Panther case--The Justice Department asserts tyrannical privileges
The Washington Times ^ | January 13, 2010 | Editorial

The Justice Department told the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights to drop dead yesterday. The growing controversy is over a voter-intimidation case involving the radical New Black Panther Party and why Justice is carrying water for the villains. The department's intransigence should frighten Congress because Justice is asserting broad privileges that undermine congressional authority to oversee government's executive branch.

That's why the timing is propitious today for the House Judiciary Committee to consider, and approve, a resolution of inquiry introduced by Rep. Frank Wolf, Virginia Republican. The Wolf resolution would direct Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. to "transmit to the House of Representatives, not later than 14 days after the date of adoption of this resolution, copies of any document, memo or correspondence of the Department of Justice with regard to United States v. New Black Panther Party."

Democrats tempted to kill this resolution today on a party-line vote should understand that they would be setting a precedent with ramifications far beyond this case. The constitutional balance of powers would be fundamentally shifted away from Congress to an unaccountable executive, and future corruption easily could go unchecked.

The Commission on Civil Rights, acting according to explicit statutory authority to subpoena executive departments, demanded that Justice answer 49 detailed questions, with accompanying document requests. In yesterday's response, the department wrote that on the basis of seven distinct claimed "privileges," it objects "to each and every Interrogatory and Document Request."...

If Congress lets DOJ get away with this it looks like that’s exactly what may happen.

Absolutely, there’s more than enough to send him packing. The Rats are going to have to come to terms with it eventually.

the GOP should be demanding an answer as to why charges were dropped, this is an outrage.

obama wrote in his book that he felt like a sell out when in school if he never hung out with commies, Marxists, black racist,

so the question which should and needs to be asked is does obama and the AG feel they’re sell outs if they charge these racists?

The whole country wants to know as there is no normal explanation why this happened.

If 3 white guys stand outside a MA voting station with sticks will the left now be shouting about it and will the AG charge them ?

If the racists get away with this under obama then I hope the next president brings the charges back up along with looking into ACORN, SEIU and all these closed door deals which have been going on with big pharma

People seem to think I was referring to the “ballot” box of liberty instead of the next one.

My allegiance is to America, not the united states government. The two are not the same.

Bastard needs to be canned. Better yet caned. Perhaps both of them.

The last thing Holder and the Panthers want is some sort of court ruling saying that their thuggery is forbidden. They want to delay such a ruling at *least* until after November of this year.

This needs to be addressed immediately and not stonewalled.

This is a very disturbing story, especially since the quote from the perps is “this ain’t America no more” and Holder seems to be bearing this out.

Based on the actions of the executive and legislative branches of the federal government in the past year, the NBP thug's statement is in large part correct. Hopefully, enough Americans will take action to bring at least part of it back come November.

This is more of a reason why we need some “conservative” people who are not afraid of intimidation like this, and become poll watchers, or election officials...

As an election official, I would not hesitate one second to arrest, and charge these types of people the second they violate the polling location I officiate...And if they have a problem with it...Well...Ya know, there are laws that cover that particular problem here in Texas too...

Time to get off yer butts conservatives...Ante up, or get out of the way...

We, the People, were not a force in the last election. We, the People, MUST BE a force in the next election.

We must be an OVERWHELMING force in the next election - to overcome the inevitable vote fraud. Keep a close eye on Massachusetts next week.

Oh really? What, precisely, are YOU planning to do?

Talk is cheap, actions, dear.

A *lot* more noise ought to be made about this...

Given the way things are going, that'll be high-caliber noise. Remember - it only takes one rifleman to change history.
