The Republicans’ war on Palin
The Hill ^ | January 12, 2010 | Bernie Quigley

Posted on 01/12/2010 11:50:19 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The Republicans need to learn one thing before February. If they keep sending out their longtime apparatchik Steve Schmidt as designated Single Combat Warrior against Sarah Palin, they will lose.

His recent comments on “60 Minutes” about Palin’s statement that her selection as John McCain’s VP was part of “God’s plan” was — nudge, nudge — pneumonic scorn that, in the context of the other reports edited by CNN’s Anderson Cooper, quite obviously intended to caricature Palin’s simple and sincere expression of Christian faith to an “upscale” secular audience.

It does, in turn, caricature the same simple (in the Tolstoyan sense) Christian faith of the tens and hundreds of millions of Americans in the heartland with similar devotion. This comment couldn’t have been more poorly timed, as other Christian conservatives rose to defend Brit Hume’s recent advice to Tiger Woods even on the op-ed pages of The New York Times. But even we Buddhists, Unitarians and “hippies for McCain” up here in the low mountains of New Hampshire can’t ignore the dharma path that appears to have opened up for Palin in the past year and a half.

Schmidt’s Republicans are still stuck in the later 20th century, the age of Hillary and Newt, while they already have in their stall a rising champion who cannot be held back. The situation with the mainstream Republicans and the absurd attempts by the mainstream at “investigative reporting” by the likes of “60 Minutes” (tick tock, tick tock) and Cooper are much like the networks and big record companies trying to fight off Little Richard and Bill Haley back in the 1950s to sustain their own establishment, whose time was quickly passing by, and protect their old-line favorites like Perry Como and Andy Williams.

Back then, the music took to the street and to smaller venues and found tricksters in back channels like Jerry Blavat, the Geater with the Heator (the Boss with the Hot Sauce) and Wolfman Jack to bring it forward. That firestorm could not be held back.

Nor can this one be. We are again in the season of the wolf, and this time the new venues are the new cable news stations like Fox, the wolf men iconoclasts like Glenn Beck — to be joined now regularly by Sarah Palin.

Steve Schmidt wants to be the lace-curtain, mass-market, MSM version of Levi Johnston. I’m sure he will pick up a few votes up here in Vermont and in western Massachusetts and down there across the Hudson, but from a marketing perspective it doesn’t make much sense to cultivate this polite and detached garden of conservative provincials when a hurricane is sweeping the heartland.

What he said.

I will increase my goal $100,000 each time they attack her (I already plan to raise $2 million for her) and I hope all who believe in her will plan on what they will do once she runs.

It’s more correctly termed the ELITIST attack on Palin.

All leftists are elitists, and some republicans, and these are the people who are attacking Palin.

Steve Schmidt would do the country a favor if he would find a nice long rope and go hang himself.

The Jackass can't even do math.

"Schmidt attended the University of Delaware from 1988 through the spring of 1993, majoring in political science. He left three credits short of graduating because he did not pass a math course; Schmidt has said that he has been diagnosed with a learning disability that makes higher math difficult for him."

What in the h3ll has happened to the Republican party?

First the idiot “leader” of the party writes a book saying we can't win back congress and wouldn't know what to do with it if we did,,

now we have pit bulls (really toy Poodles) attacking the only member that can draw crowds and energize people.

Is there some secret desire NOT to succeed?

When Secularist attack Palin’s faith in god. Just say Palin is a very deep spiritual person. You see, being deeply spiritual is acceptable but not deeply religious. A zealot is someone who try to push their views on others. Palin is not that type of person

“Deeply spiritual” is the copout phrase that cosmic/secular humanists use so that they can define their own religion and sense of right and wrong. That is why “deeply spiritual” is “acceptable”.

“Christian”, however, is unacceptable.

Obviously!
The GOP was determined to lose the 2008 election and Palin screwed up their plans by being more popular than they figured -- and is STILL more popular than any other candidate they have come up with.

I would suspect that "higher" math would be an elective-particularly in a political science major and thus not a required course for graduation. In which case, he could have gotten three credits elsewhere.
(Perhaps, though, statistics or something along those lines is required in PoliSci. If so, maybe I stand corrected.)

The degenerate POS might just do that when Sarah Palin is sworn in as president of the United States in January 2013. And good riddance too, I'd say.

This douche is making it easy for Sarah. If she wants to avoid the wrong message, just make sure she never agrees with Schmidt.

GOP insiders are still clueless on why Tea Parties have higher favorable ratings than the GOP.

Schmidt is desperately trying to be viable for employment in 2012. To do that, he has to distance himself from the trainwreck that was his campaign on behalf of John McCain.

The simple fct is McCain would have lost by ten percentage points, or more, without Palin. Thats how bad a nominee he was, and how bad of a campaign strategy Schmidt came up with. Schmidt then mismanaged Palin completely and totally.

I have about as much use for Schmidt as I do Baby Megan McCain, or that idiot David Gergen.

“majoring in political science.”
“ higher math difficult for him.”

Someone tell me please. What sort of “higher math” is required for political science degrees? I studied Architecture, and have no clue about the requirements for poly sci. Statistics?
