Sarah Palin to Contribute to Fox News
NYT ^ | Jan. 11, 2010 | Jim Rutenberg

Posted on 01/11/2010 9:55:13 AM PST by Al B.

Former Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska has signed on as a contributor to the Fox News Channel.

The network confirmed that Ms. Palin will appear on the network’s programming on a regular basis as part of a multi-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Ms. Palin will not have her own regular program, one person familiar with the deal said, though she will host an occasional series that will run on the network from time to time. This person would not elaborate, but the network does have a precedent for such a series. Oliver L. North is the host of an occasionally running documentary series on the military called “War Stories.”

Many suspected that when Ms. Palin retired as the governor of Alaska last summer she was doing so to pursue some sort of career in television. The Fox News deal, however, would not seem to be all encompassing, and would appear to give her room for other pursuits, as well.

I had this vision of the libs running around like that stupid Robby the Robot from Lost in Space...waving his arms yelling "when in danger when in doubt run in circles yell and shout". (Ok at least I think that's what he said.)

The famous line is: "Danger, Will Robinson!"

Robot B-9 was the official name of the robot, but they just called it "Robot".

Can you imagine the howls of worry in newsrooms when they heard this news?

I imagine that they only howled because they couldn't land her. I don't think there was much surprise to anyone in the media that she got a media job. Right after she announced she was quitting as governor, many of us figured that she would eventually do just that. And now that she has completed her book tour, she's ready to go to work.

Ok, everyone. I got it wrong: wrong robot name, wrong show, wrong quote..........but I still see the dems running around waving their arms screaming and shouting.

I just heard that Palin will be on with O’Reilly. If so, that will not help her political career.

O’Reilly will treat her like he does everyone else, interupting and dismissing what she says. This rudeness will be translated as Palin not to be taken serious.

"This would be like Ronald Reagan's career in radio. His commentary kept him in the public eye and vastly increased his positives as the Great Communicator right up until he declared as a candidate for president."

True, but Reagan's strength was going out into the Heartland and into the heart of Capitalism, speaking to businesses and professional conferences, extolling the American virtues that our Founding Fathers provided in Constitutionalism.

When he ran for Governor, he had spoken in front of thousands of decision makers and influencers and even what we now call "first adopters". Those people did not forget those seeds sewn later, in 1976, or 1980, or 1984.

That's what she was doing and that's what I hoped she would continue to do. Had she continued to do so, I assure you, she would have beaten Bobo in 2012.

Yes, I realize nothing prevents her from continuing on the lecture circuit in the future, but GE back then was -- rightly or wrongly -- viewed without compare in the corporate world. It was the right alliance at the right time.

Her current solo act as former Governor and VP candidate is (was) the right stance for these times of complete (and rightful) mistrust of everything Beltway, of NY media, of Globalism, and of RINOs - which Fox unfortunately employs by the dozens. Utter independence is the cachet of this day.

Why tie yourself to any media outlet when MSM anywhere along the political spectrum is held in utter contempt?

I have nothing against FoxNews but frankly her brand was already stronger without their logo stitched on her suit.

Hannity will put words in her mouth and totally ignore her answers. O’Reilly doesn’t seem to care much for her which leaves only Greta to give her a fair shake on prime time. If she is going to run for President she needs to hit home runs for the next several months with her analysis and insight and draw supporters from all sides. Hopefully she makes the most of this opportunity.

No, never heard of it. I can see the reflection of the TV from the windows in the living room below my office, though.

Sarah was used as the draw to watch 60 Minutes. If we are to believe the rest of his book, then we are not to question his version about Sarah. That’s the cleverness in his smear about Sarah. Schmidt is a clever and well practiced liar.

He’s not fooling me at all.

Perhaps, but there’s no evidence that Huckabee is in that position because of his show. Maybe he’d be doing even better if he wasn’t on FOX.

Huckabee mostly did ever so slightly better than Palin in that PPP poll because he hasn’t been the subject of a relentless media and dem assault for a year and a half. If he had everything thrown at him like Palin has I think he’d be in quite a different position. Lets see the media and the dems unleash everything they have on Huckabee(or Romney)nonstop 24/7 for over a year and then lets see where they are.

Also, keep in mind that that PPP is a dem outift and they also had Hoffman up by 20 pts in NY and have Brown within 1 in MA when no one else has it within 9, even Rasmussen. I wouldn’t put all that much stock in them.

FilmCutter,

Point blank: candidate or not, Palin is the most powerful GOP player and she will use her platform to generate support for Republicans *OTHER THAN* Romney and render those like him irrelevant as she uses her voice to guide the direction of the GOP's future. There goes whatever chances Romney has. He cannot win without her support and endorsement. PERIOD.

Not only are McCain *and* Romney people known to be behind trying to destroy her reputation during and after the election by spreading false stories, but Romney has the WORST possible chances of winning both the nomination or election. People want the free market back, we want small businesses to have their say again. We are not "corporatists." We are quite fed up with the corporate CEO types on Wall Street who contributed to the current jeopardization of the financial markets right now. It is this breed of people Romney represents regardless of however more ethical he was as a businessman or not.

As governor, Romney instituted Romneycare and that won't sit well with the American people. Romney is a lifelong Mormon yet he underwent MAJOR flip flops in expressing the kind of deep-seated convictions people look for in a candidate with regard to moral issues such as abortion. This turns both prolife AND prochoice people off. Not only did he undergo a "view" change, but he and his wife were both adamant supporters of Planned Parenthood, bolstering up prochoice candidates, and openly criticizing the power of the socially conservative wing of the Republican Party.

Romney does not have an affable personality or the charisma necessary to communicate core ideals to an American people desperate for direction and their sense of conviction back again in freedom.

Romney cannot connect with the American public. He will not generate the type of grassroots support candidates like Obama was able to.

He won't win. and it's his own fault. Palin once had a favorable opinion of him during the primaries years back, because he spoke about tapping into Alaska's resources. I can assure you, whatever little support of him she may have had is all gone.

I think it depends on how extensive this is. If she’s on all the time like Dick Morris I think that could end up being a problem, and would likely mean she isn’t running. It would also imo dilute her effectiveness and turn her into just another talking head. And dilute the value of her speeches and the like. Why would any group shell out good money to have her come speak when everyone can just see her on TV every night.

If it’s more a sporadic thing where she’s not on Hannity or O’Reilly or Greta or Beck every night but shows up every now and then, that would be a different matter. And this “Real American Stories” show sounds like it could be interesting. Depending on what that ends up being like it could be like hosting a series of national town hall type events on various topics. Talking with small business owners or teachers or parents or military figures or spotlighting “horatio alger” type stories and really cultivating that populist streak could be very effective.

It could call attention to various issues and help her network with various groups, at the same time helping her bone up on the policy side of things. If she were to do lets say even 10 of those shows on various topics by the end you’d figure she’d be pretty fluent in discussing them and could possibly build a platform out of them.

If she’s somehow going to use this as a 21st century version of Reagan’s radio gig in the 70s, it could end up being very positive.

There has to be some thinking behind this. Some reason. It’s not the money. After the book and with the speeches she’s ok in that dept. FOX also has a number of people there who have experience in campaigns and conservative/GOP politics. Being on the same “team” with folks like Ailes, Rove, Morris, etc... could end up providing some benefits. Also, the fact that both her and Huckabee are both there in some capacity is interesting. I’ve always thought Huckabee is the biggest obstacle for her. Without Huckabee in the race I think she’s in great shape. So, having some connection to Huckabee at least likely prevents him from really going after her or vice versa, or any animosity developing.

But it will be interesting to see where this all leads. You never really know with her. Anything is possible.

One last thing is it’s amazing how she keeps being able to maximize her coverage and attention. She personally hasn’t had to really raise one cent, do any of the usual hard slogging that people have to do to build a national profile, get media attention, get known, etc... From the moment she was selected to the ticket to now she’s been able to build a national profile and get coverage and name ID that others have spent years and tens of millions to achieve. She’s known across the country. She’s made appearances and speeches across the country that have been packed(and where she’s been paid to appear not vice versa). The McCain campaign and RNC handled all the campaign stuff. Harper(News Corp) handled all the book stuff. Now she has this TV opportunity and again it’s all set up. I’d imagine the value of all the free media she’s gotten to be well over 1 billion dollars. Very impressive.
