AP sources: Obama OKs taxing high-end health plans

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama signaled to House Democratic leaders Wednesday that they'll have to drop their opposition to taxing high-end health insurance plans to pay for health coverage for millions of uninsured Americans.

In a meeting at the White House, Obama expressed his preference for the insurance tax contained in the Senate's health overhaul bill, but largely opposed by House Democrats and organized labor, Democratic aides said. The aides spoke on condition of anonymity because the meeting was private.

Annual premiums greater than $8000 for individuals and $21,000 for families.

The really interesting thing to watch is whether Madam Nan and her cronies will cow-tow to this decision. High-end plans, or ‘Cadillac Plans’, are plans that where the premium are $8k+ for individuals or $21k+ for families. The problem here is that these plans are often favored by unions and workers groups (ie. SEIU, UAW, et al). Nan wants to tax ‘high income’ people to pay for healthcare and leave the high end plans alone. But now Barry wants taxes on the high end plans instead of the high income earners.
