The New York Post yesterday ran with this staggering story on newly released figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics:
"The unemployment rate for young Americans has exploded to 52.2 percent -- a post-World War II high, according to the Labor Dept. -- meaning millions of Americans are staring at the likelihood that their lifetime earning potential will be diminished and, combined with the predicted slow economic recovery, their transition into productive members of society could be put on hold for an extended period of time."

Please help us remind the public, about the failure of this "stimulus":
Minimum wage hike by the Dems also contributed to this.
Watch and please share with others. This is an awesome video that is very well done exposing the Socialists in Congress.

When I was young, I always had at least a part time job, washing dishes, doing prep work in a restaurant kitchen, construction, landscaping, working in a car wash, cleaning offices...
Gee, who does these jobs today?
0bama won the youth vote - I hope they enjoy the consequence of their actions. Plus having a black president is just soooo kewl!
See we told you that the increase in the minimum wage would do this!!!
Amazingly, it was “the young” who put obamie in power. Wonder if the kids will rethink that. Nay, they're a product of the dumbing down by community organizers and the like.
My daughter is only getting 4-8 hrs a week and has sent out many applications... no response. I have told her to “pester” them.... However, there is no response. She is getting frustrated!
Freaking “hope and change”...huh!
I thought then, BK simply cannot afford to pay high-school drop-outs $7.50 an hour while selling things on the budget menu for a dollar.
In my opinion, the quickest way to stimulate the economy is to drop the minimum wage to $4.50 an hour.
That would put young people back to work and do away with the "black market" use of illegals.
I Facebooked it for ya.
We have one in our household. Male, 22, recently laid off by a local cable/TV company.
Currently he’s shoveling snow for cash, eating a lot of meals here at home and doing grunt work part time for his Dad (my husband) who has his own computer business.
We’re making life as uncomfortable for him as possible so he DOES find productive things to do, or at the very least goes back to school fulltime.
Turns out a life of manual labor and knowing that if he moves back home, his ‘home’ will be the couch, isn’t looking very appealing to him...so, so far, our plot is working. :)
you are correct and I do not think it will improve anytime in the near future. Why would anyone want to hire a high school drop out with no skills for $7.25
16-to-24 year olds
Seems like the link ain’t working. Goes to the page but does not load... Hmmmm, interesting.
give the unemployed kids lots of impossible interest credit cards,so they can buy lots of stuff made in china, at the one store wal-mart, and give them adjustable rate mortgages with an $8000 tax incentive, when they default sell the bad loans to foreign investors, who will then cash them in for pennies on the dollar breaking the bank but no worries it was all fake money given to them anyway, but be sure to leave the gates open so that the mega fast food corporations will have minimum wage lifetime career employeees with entitlement benefits subsidized by the unemployed taxpayers with service jobs up to their necks in impossible rate credit debt and an over the dam tax burden
true, that.

Hmmm... probably "Los Robots"
Both my wife and I are unemployed, me in my 50’s and she in her 40’s. No jobs in FL so we moved back to IL where we had family willing to help. Still no jobs but we’ve gone back to school to re-train for the jobs that are available. The lack of jobs in FL also hit our 22-yr old who was laid off. He came back to IL before we did, found few jobs and was laid off eventually from the only job he did find. It forced him to finally hear ol’ Dad and go to college. Now he can’t even find a part-time job through work-study or on his own. Those jobs kids used to do are being done by under-employed adults who are happy to have any job. Things are tough and the old advice of just go get a job doesn’t hold true anymore where there are darn few jobs to get. You know times are rough when there are 100 applicants for a clerk job at a convenience store!
