WASHINGTON The CIA said Thursday that seven of its employees were killed and six others wounded in a suicide bombing at a base in Afghanistan. The Associated Press has learned that one of them was the chief of the CIA's post in Afghanistan's southeastern Khost Province. CIA Director Leon Panetta said in a message to agency staff that the casualties sustained in Wednesday's strike at Forward Operating Base Chapman were the result of a terrorist attack. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the bombing.
Initial reports indicated that eight American civilians had been killed. There was no explanation for the discrepancy in Panetta's message, which was released by the CIA in an unusual step a day after one of the deadliest attacks on the agency in its history. "Those who fell yesterday were far from home and close to the enemy, doing the hard work that must be done to protect our country from terrorism," Panetta said. "We owe them our deepest gratitude, and we pledge to them and their families that we will never cease fighting for the cause to which they dedicated their lives a safer America." "Yesterday's tragedy reminds us that the men and women of the CIA put their lives at risk every day to protect this nation," he said. "Throughout our history, the reality is that those who make a real difference often face real danger." No further information about the victims would be released, the CIA director said, "due to the sensitivity of their mission and other ongoing operations." |

How long before the first post about lazy, incompetent, overpaid, leeching government employees shows up?
He was targeted. No doubt about it. Who in Hussein’s administration tipped them off?
The CIA said Thursday that seven of its employees were killed including the CIA chief, and six others wounded in a suicide bombing at a base in Afghanistan.

Oh yeah...
I can just hear the doors being locked of the anti-intel and anti CIA funding types in D.C.
Private security in D.C. booms...

That would NOT be CIA field agents. They have a very
dangerous job and do things we have no idea to protect us.
Hard to believe we’re even discussing this as a serious possibility. But it is.
This is getting more surreal by the hour.
If anyone doubts that Obama’s gutting of the CIA’s ability to interrogate the enemy is one of the reasons behind the latest “human caused events” then I have a brindge in brooklyn....
rules of engagement were changed. Now we can’t do anything until after they blow themselves up.
Obama should be hung for treason by our troops.
You need to ask, when the littleman Rahm told us any crisis is so valuable to their goals?
Somebody let me know when President Dithers makes a statement on this.
This stuff wasnt happening under Bush.
Oh really? Get real.
“Hopefully we don’t have an Obama administration turncoat who gave out the location of these agents”
No, no worries. They’ll sell secrets to China for campaign cash, strategically damage the economy beyond repair, but I’m sure they’d draw the line at that.
Because if any Admin member gave info to the enemy they would have been arrested.
Leon Panetta would be the first suspect if not Obama himself.
Afghanistan was under control under Bush and Franks. They were smart to take the fight to Iraq and draw in Al Qaeda.
Isn’t that the truth? I’ve though about that lately...so much of it hitting the fan. Of course in Iraq and Afghanistan the new ROE’s are guaranteed to result in more loss of life..
