Before a Nigerian man allegedly attempted blow up a U.S. airliner on Christmas Day, President Obama had not dedicated a lot of time to speaking publicly about homeland security.
He didn't mention the term "homeland security" once when he addressed Congress last February, nor did it come up much in other major speeches or press conferences.
During his presidential campaign, Obama criticized the approach of the George W. Bush administration, which created the Department of Homeland Security as a reaction to the Sept. 11 attacks, as efforts "to scare Americans without telling them what to be scared of, or what to do."
"The fact that Obama has not been giving speeches with lots of platitudes in them doesn't immediately suggest that he isn't taking it seriously," says Mary Schiavo, a former inspector general at the U.S. Transportation Department. "I am hoping it means he understands it is a law enforcement issue."

...and by “subtler”, they mean “weaker”.
This statement here scares the crap out of me:
"I am hoping it means he understands it is a law enforcement issue."
Any more subtle and it’ll be invisible.
obamination is doing his level best to IGNORE homeland security because he wants sharia to win.
I’m surprised the term nuanced wasn’t used!
back to Clinton doctrine
to hell with the military, use subpoenas as our first
line of defense
Parts of ythe Patriot Act expire Dec 31st. Health care was much more important!!
“In some places, we have taken a step backwards on enforcement, including on illegal immigration and visa over-stayers,” says Mayer. “We are back to a de facto catch-and release-program, rather than detain-and-remove.”
But immigration advocates are pushing the White House to go even further, and there is speculation that the Obama administration will push Congress to pass a broad immigration overhaul next year a debate that is bound to provoke a political battle to rival the one over health care.
2010 elections cannot come fast enough.
Law enforcement is not the focus of a corrupt, lawless administration either.
“Migratory reform” by executive fiat if necessary, will be the next part of the evolving coup being unfolded in the USA
NPR providing cover for Obama. So. Very. Predictable.
Give me a break. It was not an alleged attempt. He did blow up the plane, the fact that it turned out to be a very wimpy explosion notwithstanding.
That's why Mr. O had the UnderBoomer mirandized so he could lawyer up and not be interrogated. Treating it as a 'Law Enforcement issue' and not as an Act of War is Mr. Os way of putting our agencies heads in the sand.
As in, none.
Wow! He’s quite the tough guy, I’m sure Al Queda is cowering in fear. He’s going to have his Jimmy Carter moment in foreign policy where it blows up in his face in spectacular fashion.
