FUNTUA, Nigeria (Reuters) - For residents in his home town, it was Umar Abdulmutallab's foreign education, not his roots in Muslim northern Nigeria, that radicalized him and led him to try to blow up a U.S. passenger plane.
"My only advice to the elite is to allow their children to mingle with the children of the masses so that he will have some of the traditional morals and values that (the elder) Mutallab himself enjoyed," Bello told Reuters.
Abdulmutallab was educated at the British School in Lome, Togo -- a boarding school mostly serving expatriates and students from around West Africa -- before studying engineering at University College London (UCL), where he is believed to have lived in a multi-million dollar city-center apartment.

Well, I hate to say it, but to a certain extent this is true. Nothing like a British or European university to finish radicalizing a Muslim from the boondocks.
Not that there is any lack of terrorism back home. I seem to remember a civil war where the Muslim Hausa tribe murdered the Christian Ibos in Nigeria by the thousands.
But they do often get a finishing polish on their radicalism in European universities.
Whatever.
Yes, I think the “missing ingredient” is the overwhelming hatred and loathing of Western culture and capitalism. This is only available in latent, meager, and a blunt form at home, but becomes a full-blown, pointed, activist, brainwashing experience in the Western schools.
The title: “Nigeria bomber's home town blames foreign schooling”.
When you read into the beginning of the story you find that one person, Ibrahim Bello (65), was asked about the bomber.
And Mr. Bello apparently KNOWS that “Everyone knew the Mutallabs and the father is honest, generous, helpful and above all a prominent banker.”
Well then, no need to research any further, Mr. Bello speaks for the entire town ... AND ... that he can vouch for the family. But in the next breath he states ... “But many of us did not know the children of the Mutallabs because they did not grow up here in Funtua, ...”.
So which is it? Were the Mutallabs honest, generous? Or you did not know anything of the Mutallabs except for the old man?
Can a Reuters put together a real story without generalizations and assumptions? Facts please ... the who, what, where, when, and why of the subject is the news story.
The old man is probably ok, basically just a corrupt, wealthy but non-ideological African bureaucrat.
The mad-bomber son renounced his family some years ago because they weren’t “Islamic enough.” However, somebody somewhere was giving him support, since he was unemployed but living quite well indeed - and obviously didn’t have any trouble buying airline tickets.
I called this perfectly earlier today.

Elite Western schools have become disseminators of anti-Western propaganda. Would it be a stretch if these schools also became recruiting grounds for anti-Western terrorists? Where did the Nigerian terrorist connect with his terrorist network? If more terrorists are recruited in the West than in Islamic countries, perhaps we should stop importing so many Muslims.

We know for a fact the crime is related to Western immigration policy. Increasing Islamic attacks are inevitable if we insist upon increasing the Islamic population in the West while teaching children to disparage the West. This never happened before we brought Muslims to live here. Who is forcing us to continue bringing them?

There are radical groups in Nigeria...and he was supposedly part of one of these groups. He is an enemy combatant...he needs to be turned over to the military.
Good story. If this guy came from a region of Sufi Muslims, this is definitely something to worry about. They need to really look into his University and local mosque in England.
The Sufis are the Muslims that believe Jihad is a personal struggle inside each person against Satan. They aren’t your typical terrorist types. They are constantly targeted by other sects (Sunnis and Shias) because they won’t play along.
They get here, they get a job in Immigration, they breed, they let more of their kind in.
Happened (and continues to happen) with Mexicans, now its happening with Muslims.
