Reasons to be fearful: Democrats face triple whammy for elections
The London Times ^ | December 26, 2009 | Charlie Cook

Posted on 12/25/2009 6:34:17 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

One might expect Democrats to be euphoric during this holiday season. After recapturing control of Congress in 2006, and last year taking back the White House by electing America's first African-American president, Democrats are now on the verge of passing a historic health care reform law. But instead of celebrating, they are bitterly divided. Former Democratic Party chairman Howard Dean and liberal bloggers are urging the Senate to defeat the health care bill. Many are criticizing President Barack Obama for compromising too much, saying the proposal doesn't go far enough, while more moderate and conservative Democrats are petrified the bill and the President's agenda are too ambitious and will cost them re-election next year. Polls show that while a majority of Americans favour some form of health care reform, most oppose the current Democratic proposals.

The controversy over health care reform isn't the beginning or the end of the problems facing President Obama and Democrats who increasingly fear that in next November's midterm elections their 60-40 advantage in the Senate could be significantly diminished and they could lose outright control of the House of Representatives. In the last six weeks, four Democratic House members in swing districts have announced their retirements, putting their seats in grave danger. A fifth, newly-elected last year with $1,000,000 of party support, just announced he is changing parties, becoming a Republican. This honeymoon cruise with Barack Obama as President has hardly been smooth sailing.

While President Obama's overall poll numbers aren't good, they aren't terrible either. More ominous for Democrats is the beating their party in Congress has taken this year.(continued)

Obama above the fray and most Americans still love him?

What is this author smoking? Of course, they are trying anyway they can to bring his numbers up by continuing the lie.

Only problem there is we have Obama’s number and he is the worst POTUS ever.

It is time the American Public found out what a snake (snack) pit Washington has become.

It is TIME to DownSize DC!

Eliminate entire Departments (Education, EPA, IRS, etc)

Force Congress & Senate to telecommute most of year.

For functions not specifically granted by Constitution to the US Government, move any worth keeping to be administered by the State government.

.......................and last year taking back the White House by electing America’s first African-American president,..................

Hey London Times, you’re racist!!!!

Here in America we don’t care about the color of his skin, we care about the Communist/Socialist color of his heart, and those in and out of government that he associates with.

Don’t you go out and tell us that this is a color issue, because it isn’t!

I posted a reply on the Times’ to their editorial but I’m reasonably sure they won’t print it. Not because I used any invective exceeding that in replies they did print, but because I brought up issues that the Left leaning Times doesn’t want to acknowledge exist regarding the ideological shortsightedness and incompetency of 0bama’s and the Democrats’ policies.

,"Obama’s in way over his head and doesn’t have enough sense to realize it."

He's still preening in front of his magic mirror thinking up ways to be more "historic" and "unprecedented".

Obama’s next moves will include the fairness doctrine - too many voices out there that just don’t agree with him. He will do what he can to make those dissenters less vocal and less profitable.

Zero and Congress are going down to a single digit in approval. The feces will be hitting the fan when everyone realizes they’ve been lied to, when they realize how corrupt these scum are, and when they realize they’re headed for hospice centers courtesy of Obama, Reid, and Pelosi et al.

It is good to see his approval fairly low among independents, who probably will be crucial in throwing out a lot of Dems next year and were decisive in the GOP victories last month in NJ and VA. However, Cook’s data shows a majority of independents still like zer0 personally and “admire his vision?!” If that is accurate then we still have huge problems in this country. That also defies the other polls we have see where a majority of Americans place themselves on the right side of the spectrum.

What sort of obama is this dude smokin'? Zero's numbers are the worst on record for an American President in his first year in office.

I have some email buddies in the UK. They are under the impression that BHO is solidly popular and enjoys broad support.

Forward Zero's latest Rassmussen poll numbers to them. That ought to give them a reality adjustment.

It’s not the number of votes, I believe Stalin said, but WHO counts them that matters. And right now, the Democrats will be counting them.

Then let them count our rifles, while they deign to steal our country from us.

Everyone needs to keep on their toes in 2010.

Working for real conservative candidates. Just one. Local, school board, state level, or federal level. Support others with some donations if you believe in them.

If we can each do both, even if you do anything for just one candidate, and support one more, and then vote, and even make sure one more conservative person votes, it will be a big difference.

Think how much more the difference will be if those of us are motivated to go beyond this basic idea of 1 volunteer, 1 donation, 1 more voter. Start prepping people right now just tapping into their frustration and using the opportunity to explain how the dems are tanking everything and point them towards the conservative alternatives at whatever level (local, state, federal) you can to not only give them a reason to vote against dems, but FOR something and someone conservative.

To take out some of the effect of very high unemployment and do an objective comparison among Presidents, you have to adjust Obama's numbers up for the impact of unemployment and serious fear about the economy. A bad economy drags down the approval ratings of all politicians compared to their approval ratings during a good economy. We'll get a better read on where his approval ratings really stand next year when the economy recovers to some extent and people are less worried about losing their jobs.

Looking out a few years, I think very sluggish employment growth, higher taxes, higher general inflation, and serious inflation of energy prices are going to defeat Obama in 2012 and enable the GOP to take control of the House in 2010. If I recall correctly, income taxes go up next year (next month) when the Bush tax cuts expire and people are going to see a drop in their take-home pay at the same time that Pelosi and the House will probably start debating even more new taxes to reduce the huge deficit created by the pork stimulus bill and other bailouts for democrat supporters such as public employee unions, teachers' unions, the UAW, and the SEIU. Before long the American people will realize that they've been robbed by the democrats, who ran up massive debt to prevent layoffs and pay cuts among those democrat supporters. When the House starts voting for even more new taxes next year, then the rebellion will really get rolling and the democrats will be in bigger political trouble. If they don't vote for spending cuts or tax increases, then the bond market will object strenuously to massive budget deficits and interest rates on federal debt and mortgages will rise and start to suppress the economic recovery.

So the Dems have screwed themselves by overspending on pork and political paybacks to their core supporters. That spending has to be paid for now with higher taxes, spending cuts, or higher interest rates. We know they're addicted to government spending and so the House democrats will never cut spending significantly. That means taxes and interest rates are going up next year and therefore democrat congressmen are going down to defeat in 2010. Speaker Boehner has a good ring to it...I like that title.
