Republicans are stepping up their efforts to persuade more House Democrats to switch parties and are zeroing in on a second-term Pennsylvanian who is not ruling out such a move.
Democratic Rep. Chris Carney received a phone call Wednesday from Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) asking him to consider becoming a Republican, a top GOP official told POLITICO. A spokesman for Carney declined to say if the congressman was considering such a switch.
“No further comment at this time,” said Carney spokesman Josh Drobnyk, who would only confirm that the call took place.
In a brief interview, McCain declined to offer details about the conversation. “I just said, ‘Whatever you do, I know that you’ll make the right decision for the country,’” said the Arizonan.

McCain probably told him he could switch sides as often as he wanted to .... and the GOP still might nominate him for president some day.
I agree, but we need anybody we can get right now. Once this bill gets to be law, there’s only one way out, and it’s not going to be through the legislature.
Maybe they’ve had a wake-up call and realize they won’t be reelected unless they change. Let’s watch them and see if they change.
But in the meantime, we shouldn’t shoot them down when they’re actually (for whatever reason) trying to do the right thing.
After all, we have been recruiting muslims as physicians for our combat troops, translators for terrorist interrogations, analysts for the CIA, sensitivity trainers for several government agencies, and ornaments for the WH Christmas Communist-Kwanzaa tree.
Might as well let all the barbarians through the gates!
I say we keep our backs up, stay strong, and SUPPORT ONLY Conservative candidates. The best way to do that is to make sure a ‘Rat in RINO clothing isn't sitting as the current occupant with RNC RINO support.

Maybe a bit of balls left in the GOP yet. Maybe McCain meant what he said about fighting until the very end.
Brown has an outliers chance, but somebody is going to have to come up with some serious money and also do some SERIOUS grass roots organizing. I know in my town there is an informal GOP network trying to people off their ass and to the town hall to cast an absentee ballot.
OK, thanks. I agree with you in the long run, but all that I’m saying is that at this particular moment, we need all the support we can get. We can argue about the details later.
The crucial thing is to stop this abomination from being imposed on us.

McCain is very strange. I think he’s got a sort of political ADD. Ye’s all over the place, and you never know what’s going on in his mind or why he’s doing it.
Very strange. I voted for him because he was the only possibility against Obama, but it was a very reluctant vote, not only because he’s a RINO, but because he’s a loose cannon.
However, this time, I think we should support him.

It has to be pretty damned demoralizing for the RATs to see their membership abandon the sinking ship and join the minority party.
The general public doesn’t know from Blue Dogs nor RINOs. To have voters viewing Ds publicly turning into Rs, and on the specifically stated principles...has to be a major PR disaster for the RATs.

It is obviously easier to win as a Republican in the PA-10 than as a Democrat. Carney won in 2006 solely because the incumbent Republican, Don Sherwood, was forced to admit to an extramarital affair and to deny that he had been choking his mistress right before she called 911 on him (and it being a ridiculously bad years for Republicans didn’t hurt; he was reelected in 2008 because of bad GOP recruiting and the environment continuing to be toxic for the GOP.
The only way that Carney can lose reelection if he switches to the GOP is if he loses the GOP primary. For that to happen, a first- or high-second-tier candidate has to run against him, which I’m afraid may not happen. Frankly, I don’t think that Carney is conservative enough to make an acceptable Republican Representative for a conservative district, and if his staying with the RATs leads to a strong GOP challenger making the race then I’d rather he stayed with the RATs so that we can beat him in November.
Eee Gads... one can just imagine the type of person McCain will try to get to swap parties.

If by support you mean "give him a rousing 'hoozah' when he hits the target" then I'm with you. But like a loose cannon you do not want to stand behind him.
'Loose cannon' is definitely the most accurate analogy there is for him.
If McCain can figure out a way to sink Obamacare by pulling 5 or 6 Dems in the House - he probably would be a major hero.

What if this and other moves defeat the socialist monster? Then deal with the cleansing...probly not going to work, but if it did, I’d support it as a temporary measure...then oppose him in the primary. At least he would have switched on some sort of principle. But he’s no Conservative.
