After more than a quarter-century of public service to his home state of Tennessee, U.S. Rep. Bart Gordon announced his plans to retire from Congress when his current term ends in 2010.
I feel honored that the people of Middle Tennessee have allowed me to serve them for the past 25 years, said Gordon. Every decision I have made in Congress has been with their best interests in mind. I hope the people here at home feel that I have served them as well as their good advice and views have served me.
When I was elected, I was the youngest member of the Tennessee congressional delegation; now, Im one of the oldest. In fact, I have members of my staff who werent even born when I took office. That tells me its time for a new chapter.
Gordon, the dean of the states congressional delegation, said he made his decision after consulting with his wife, Leslie.
Turning 60 has led me to re-evaluate whats next. I have an 8-year-old daughter and a wonderful wife who has a very demanding job. I am the only child of my 83-year-old mother, Margaret. They have made sacrifices to allow me to do what I love by serving in Congress, and now its my turn, said Gordon.

R or D?
No southern Democrat is safe.
Democrat I believe.
D = Democrat Retirement.
The 0bummerFactor continues.
Just looked it up - D
14 (UPI) — US Rep. Bart Gordon, D-Tenn., said Monday he is planning on retiring from the US House of Representatives at the end of the year
I gag when I hear them talking about their time as "service".
When a pig comes to the trough, is he "serving" the public?
These clowns, all the Ds that will no stand the chance of getting re-elected with retire.
Watch out for them to increase their pensions and benefits in these next 12 months.
Democratic.
Yeah, right - somebody take notes on what this clown "sacrifices" to help his mom, and how much he actually helps.
D = Democrat Retirement.

+++++++++++++++
Aside from what seems like recent good news in the Senate about socialized obummercare, some of these retirements may be setting up ‘yea’ votes in the House for the monster bill that may still pass.
DON’T GIVE UP! Keep calling, faxing and driving the poll numbers DOWN...
“allowed me to serve them”

Instead of public servant, it’s public extortionist.
BS, EVERY politician decides every issue with "will this get me re-elected" in mind.
His statement could be boiled down to “I, I, I, I.” He says he’s old, but he’s only 60. So, maybe he sees the handwriting on the wall.
Unfortunately, he may very well use the rest of his term to vote for all of Obama’s ***** monstrosities, since he won’t be running again and no doubt Obama will reward him with a nice cushy goodbye present.
Bingo.If they are gonna get pulled away from the trough,they want to take a piece of it with them.
How do you write an article like this, and hold off mentioning this guy is a Democrat to the sixth paragraph?
Did the DNC write this?
I don’t know about traditional democrat held districts but in traditional GOP districts like mine, the democrat only won because Obozo voters carried them. I suspect that my district will return to GOP hands, hopefully it will be the conservative.
60 years old - 8 year old daughter.
Got it.
His district is in the Nashville suburbs.
He squeaked out a win in 94’.
Gerrymandering by the democrat Tennessee legislature kept him safe after that, but even he can see the 2010 tsunami heading the democrats way.
