TRENTON, NJ The New Jersey Senates health committee on December 7 passed a bill that would require fluoride to be added to public water supplies throughout the state, The Star-Ledger reported December 8. Environmental advocates, utility companies and some parents object to the bill (A3709/S2856), which would require public and private water utilities to start adding fluoride within a year of the laws enactment. Some lawmakers say the bill would be too costly to the consumer, yet the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee voted 6-0 with three abstentions to approve the bill. There are more than 6 million households in the state. To read the full story, click here. For related information, click here.
The fluoride that is put in drinking water is fluorine (gas) in a compound with either sodium, silicon, or both. None of these are heavy metals.
That is an incredibly ignorant statement. It is neither heavy nor a metal. It is element number 9 and comes right after oxygen in the periodic table. It is in column VII, and is the the first of the halogens.
Ummm ... no.
Flouride is a halide. Halides are the naturally occuring states of the Halogen chemical elements Flourine, Cholorine, Iodine, and Bromine. Halogens are higly reactive NON-METALLIC minerals. They tend to form salts by combining with the Alkili metals like Phosphorous, Sodium, Lithium, Cesium, etc.
It never goes away.
Of course it doesn't. Halogens always form very highly stable but inert compounds. That's why Flourine is used in teflon, uranium enrichment, Chloro-Flouro-Carbons, etc.
It has been suggested that putting fluoride in the water was a government device to dispose of the fluoride.
Yes, such rubbish has been suggested since the time of Dr. Strangelove. However, you might take note of the number of cavities and state of teeth in the population born up to around 1950, and then compare that to children born in the 1970's or 1980's. Where the silent generation and early boomers have mouth's full of cavities, children and young adults today rarely have any cavities, or if they do, only a few small ones. The difference is water flouridation, and flouride treatment at the dentist, flouride in toothpaste, and flouride in mouthwash.
No shortage of chemist here on FR!!!
:-)
> Fluoride is a heavy metal
Err, no, it is not. It isn’t a metal, and it isn’t heavy, but apart from that, I guess you’re close.
I didn’t think that sounded right, but that was what I was reading. It is definitely a poison, though, and the locals, here did win a huge law suit for the contamination, and it does cause symptoms similar to lead poisoning. It crippled the local cows and caused some problems with the deer, too.
The problem in Whatcom County was so acute, that the department of ecology had to come in and manage the area around the smelter.
You’re right, it was ignorant, but it is still a poison.
The City of Grand Rapids, MI was first to do water fluoridation, starting in January 1945.
The Surgeons General and the CDC staff are free to drink as much poison as they like. I won’t.
For now the USA is still a semi free nation. Go ahead and pay for bottled water.
We will know there is a real recession when Americans cease paying for water that is essentially free.
I have a well. I don’t pay anything for my water, which I then filter ... and it doesn’t have any fluoride (unless naturally occurring).
You pay money for WATER W-A-T-E-R H20 NOT a government designed SUPERSOUP!
EVERYTHING in government proceeds by DEGREES. Today its Flouride - TOMORROW - WHO KNOWS!
If somebody wants Fluoride in their water, give them a packet of Fluoride Salt and tell them to have fun.
Do you REALLY want to drink a liquid DESIGNED by the GOVERNMENT??!!!!! This just ANOTHER case of the tail wagging the dog and the inner city constituency dictating government policy because they don't take care of their own kids.
Like LEADED PAINT. I grew up in houses with LOTS of Leaded Paint. NEVER had a problem. WHY? I never gnawed the woodwork. But SOME constituencies are too busy with “OTHER” activities than to supervise their kids, SOOOO they want the STATE to do it FOR them. NOW, NOBODY can use lead based paint.
The very same constituencies use the VERY SAME LOGIC to try and ban guns.
NOBODY in MY neighborhood shoots off guns in the streets over drug deals. But then I don't live in Camden or any OTHER one of those Democrat ward dominated cesspools.
And in many cases came from the same taps they're avoiding.
The CDC opposes gun ownership because it is dangerous for “children” - and other people.
My GUESS is SOMEBODY’s relative in Trenton has a FLOURIDE company.
So go ahead and pay for bottled water. That way you’re not supporting that Evil Flouride Company.
Not on FR they don't.
These threads pop up a couple times a year, with the same arguments every time.
