People are freaking out all over Norway because of what you are seeing here. According to Norwegian news outlets, the spooky giant spiral was seen, photographed, and recorded on video from all over the country. Updated with video.
Could it all be a hoax? Maybe it's a massive joke, but all kinds of Norwegian news sites are reporting on it. According to NKRNorway's national TV channelit could be related to a rocket fired from a Russian submarine in the White Sea. The Russians are denying any part on it at this at the moment. Nick Banbury, a witness located at Harstad, described how it all happened:
We are used to seeing lots of auroras here in Arctic Norway, but on my way to work this morning I saw something completely unexpected. Between 7:50 and 8:00 a.m. local time, there was a strange light in the sky. It consisted initially of a green beam of light similar in colour to the aurora with a mysterious rotating spiral at one end. This spiral then got bigger and bigger until it turned into a huge halo in the sky with the green beam extending down to the earth.
As hard as it is to believe, you can't dispute the fact that the strange spiral was witnessed and recorded by thousands of people from hundreds of miles away, which means that the phenomenon occurred at a very high altitude. Even Phil Plait from Bad Astronomy agrees that this is real, and says that it was probably a rocket out of control.
I look forward to all of the new Ole, Lena and Dalek jokes.
re: Personally, I think this is a sign that Cinnabun is going to take over the world.
Sounds good to me. I would far rather have Cinnabun take over the world than Obama. Cinnabun is at least benevolent.
I for one welcome our Cinnabun Overloads.
Don’t blame me, I voted for Kodos.
The folks at HAARP and the Haydron Collider were doing a bit of duelling banjos.
You can believe what you want. Just keep in mind that algore was seen playing in the backyard with his shiny new blue flashlight.
Pretty neat.. I wonder how they did it.
It was done by a Hugh projector. I series.
ROVE! You magnificent Bastard!!!!!
Figures.. That would explain the light beam from the ground.
If Sven told you he was a Lord, he was lying to you. He's really just a self-important fashion model.
I’ve seen rockets fired from arab-occupied territories that do this when something goes wrong, like a bent stabilizer.
The spiral really isn’t a spiral, it’s a circling rocket and looks like a spiral because the rocket is either moving toward you or away from you in an even “cork screw” pattern, laid on it’s side.
Crappy Iranian rockets, crappy Russian rockets, same result, just bigger.
Sorry about that. We blew a vacuum tube while producing the latest mid-west snowstorm. Luckily one of our musically inclined techs had an old Fender tube amp around to come to our rescue. The bad news is this new fangled daisy printer is shot.
I hated that when it first came out. I saw it again and it was cute, then again and funny. The more I see it, the more I like it. Had the same experience with A Christmas Story.
It's the Cidadel, it's about to blow...
I’m getting sleeeeeeeppppeeeeeee...
THUD!
“Phil Plait from Bad Astronomy”
Just remember, there is a reason they call him the ‘Bad Astronomer’.
He use to (and may still be) tow the line on AGW.
