In yesterdays New York Times, there was an article about White House social secretary Desirée Rogers. In it, reporter Sheryl Gay Stolberg wrote: When former social secretaries gave a luncheon to welcome Ms. Rogers earlier this year, one participant said, she surprised them by suggesting the Obamas were planning a non-religious Christmas .
This same participant said that the Obamas did not intend to put the manger scene on display (this was confirmed by the White House). Indeed, as Stolberg wrote, there had been internal discussions about making Christmas more inclusive and whether to display the crèche.
Catholic League president Bill Donohue addressed this issue today:
Unlike almost all Americansincluding atheiststhe Obamas do not give their children Christmas gifts. We know this because Barack bragged about this last year to People magazine. So it should come as no big surprise that he and his wife would like to neuter Christmas in the White House. Thats their natural stepto ban the public display of Christian symbols. Have any doubts? Last April, Georgetown University was ordered to put a drape over the name of Jesus as a condition of the president speaking there.
If the Obamas want to deprive their children of celebrating Christmas, that is their business. It is the business of the public to hold them accountable for the way they celebrate Christmas in the White House. We know one thing for sure: no other administration ever entertained internal discussions on whether to display a nativity scene in the White House.
I once knew a Pentecostal Baptist family who did not celebrate Christmas with tress or gift-giving. But I don't think this is why the Obamas do not celebrate it....
Muslims do not believe that Jesus is God.
I don’t know what could be MORE inclusive than the Christmas message (ie the Gospel, the good news that Christ died for our sins and rose again). Disturbing that a Christian President would not celebrate his religion openly. Hmmm....
Once a mooooslum always a moooslum
I thought on a prior thread of WH decorations, that a navitity scene was indeed up.
??
I wonder if Obammy is going to allow it this year?
Now, why would a Christian family want to do something like this? Maybe because it’s NOT a Christian family?
I had to research but I found an old "Night before Christmas"...and it did indeed say "Happy Christmas To All".
There's no way out...Obama is a born and raised Muslim...Christian?? Wright's church and christianity are miles apart and I believe Wright was a Muslim, too.
I hung my White House Christmas ornaments upside down on my tree. I thought it appropriate given the circumstances.
I heard on Laura Ingraham that the official ornaments were ones of vegetables, as grown in Michele's garden.
0bama is no Christian. Going to some church does not make someone a Christian, esp. if the church teaches race hatred and “liberation theology” (Marxism dressed up in heretic pseudo-Christian language).
The spirit of the anti-Christ.
1 John 4:3
but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
From work connections, I am usually offered the opportunity to purchase one every year (I never have taken advantage of that opportunity).
Come to think of it, I haven't seen a solicitation this year.
Well, the islamic new year starts on 18 December, and the 0bamas will celebrate Ashura on the 27th. I guess they figure that’s enough festivity for the rest of the year.
The British say “Happy Christmas,” not “Merry Christmas.”
This is weird. Is this something that comes from Michelle's side of the family?
What a heart breaking disappointment this man is. Not really an American, certainly not even Western...
Someone pointed that out to me the other day.
