I think it comes from Bambi’s Muslim past, unless Michelle was a Jehovah’s Witness as a child (a lot of blacks are). Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t celebrate Christmas.
However, her father was a big Chicago ward boss, so it’s hard to imagine that the family was JW.

maybe they will emerge from the Kailua compound to visit the little unitarian church on the hill where they will remember dear beloved Toot with Bette Midler music...... but maybe not
