Of course, the subtitle of Sarah Palin’s book is “An American Life.”
Because she is the lovely avatar of real Americans — ordinary, hard-working, God-fearing, common-sense, good, ordinary, real Americans.
If you are not living an American life, you are, to use a Palin coinage, living “bass-ackwards.”(snip)
I approached reading her book with trepidation, worried I might learn that I am not a real American, dang it, just another dreaded, jaded “enlightened elite.”

I think they no longer have the money to hire star journalists with superior thought processes, investigative energy, excellent writing skills, and non-knee jerk originality.
It's for sure that a writer possessing such skills along with some modicum of integrity will NOT be in the hire of the NY Times and its addled, commie, punk owner, Little Kim Pinch Sulzberger.

It certainly is. Apparently the disdain flyover country is showing for the entrenched elite has percolated all the way up to their brains. It's about time. When they get to "why do they hate us?" the whole thing will have come full circle.
But certain denizens of the Left appear at last to be noticing a disturbing level of tribal hatred. Stanley Fish wrote a fascinating piece on it in yesterday's NY Times -
"I headed straight for the bright young thing who wore an “Ask Me” button, and asked her to point me to the section of the store where I might find Sarah Palin’s memoir, “Going Rogue: An American Life.” She looked at me as if I had requested a copy of “Mein Kampf” signed in blood by the author, and directed me to the nearest Barnes and Noble, where, presumably, readers of dubious taste and sensibility could find what they wanted."
Now that is an odd reaction from a presumably literate young woman. It isn't in the least unusual in certain circles, but it also isn't entirely explicable. They don't even know her, but they know they hate her because they've been told they ought to. Ask them why and you generally are answered by one of the canned accusations and a distinct air of fear that they'll be revealed as spouting a comfortable ignorance. Why else would any thinking person say, "You shouldn't read that" about anything, much less a book as thunderously successful as this one?
It is perhaps this underlying uncertainty that is prodding Mo Dowd along a little here. It'll pass.
Forget! Hell. That’s the only reason I’m here. MoDo has one redeeming quality...and this is it. And it’s totally beyond anything she has control or influence over.

Listened to the audio book, I think you mean. I’m not sure Maureen actually reads. Stares at the pages, maybe.
It’s a shame Dorothy Parker isn’t alive today. Leftist as Dorothy might have been, Maureen would have made Tonstant Weader fwow up.
