California: While Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger worries about rising seas, his state sinks below the waves. Don't mess with Texas, they say. But California and the nation could follow its lead.
Last Wednesday, Gov. Schwarzenegger released a new report based on research compiled by the California Energy Commission claiming that by 2100 San Francisco Bay would be more bay than San Francisco, with Fisherman's Wharf and Treasure Island under the rising waters of climate change.
His show-and-tell, which included a new Google Earth application the commission spent $150,000 to help develop, goes a long way toward explaining the once-Golden State's slide into an economic and budgetary abyss.
The governor and legislative Democrats in 2006 approved a new law requiring California to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions 25% by 2020. This 2020 vision was myopic, and the state has been losing industry, jobs and people ever since. But the governor persists, warning Wednesday that "we must also be prepared if climate change continues to worsen."
State Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, R-Irvine, is among those who have questioned the science behind such economic decisions, as others have done at the national level, particularly in the wake of the Climate-gate scandal involving Britain's Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia.
"Combined with the $21 billion deficit we're facing in the coming year, this shows we ought to be focusing our attention on more mundane things like living within our means," DeVore says. "To use this all-encompassing rubric of climate change as a power grab to usurp property rights is something we shouldn't be doing."

Ahnold was just making jobs for the computer programmers. Obviously union, judging by the price.
As the editorial says, Californians will “vote with their feet” and move to Texas. Then, of course, they will vote to make Texas more like Socialist California and ruin it too like so many Libs have done to so many formerly conservative states before.
I like the last sentence ‘Perhaps Obama should have held his job’s summit in Austin”?
California is a model of what will happen if the environazis
cap the rest of America. Problem is, there will be nowhere to run, as in voting with our feet. So this epic fraud has to be stopped “cold”.
Wait a minute... wasn’t this the plotline of the first Superman movie?
How far inland do I have to buy land to have beachfront property Al?
Will the EPA get its nose out of joint when SF goes into the ocean without first going through a treatment plant?
The only real solution is a big earthquake

I good with that, as long as they stay there.
Excellent, as are all the other nine reasons
The health care and global warming debacles have truly made me want to have Texas secede from the U.S.
Today it snowed in the Bay Area, down to 1700 feet (maybe lower) in South Bay, down to 500 supposedly in North Bay.
It's cold in my office right now, and everyone is running around singing "It's beginning to look a lot like Christ-mas...". I drove through snow this morning on the way to work.
Meanwhile, Grinches and Mugwumps in Sacramento are getting hysterical about "warming" as they skate along on the snow that fell today there.
What a farce.
The smug idiots who have ruined Kalifornia will dig in even more because God forbid they follow anything those “rednecks” in Texas do.
geez, you think?
When lefties are backed into a corner by facts, they typically do one of two things:
1) Claim that such economic growth is actually the result of some other miscellaneous thing such as the exploitation of Mexicans or some government program.
2) Go full-blooded hippie, and claim that such prosperity is not what life is all about, man.
No they won’t. Everytime a leftie sticks his/her head up they get their hat shot off.
This is not a State to mess with when it comes to LAND and FREEDOM. Just sayin’
You mean like passing “Keep your filthy hands off my land Laws” (eminent Domain)
let me give you a little example of how it works
i have some rental properties in Ridgecrest, California, a town of about 35,000 situated next to the China Lake Naval Weapons Testing Station...
there is a commission of political appointees somwhere in Sacramento whose job it is to make sure that all towns of a certain minimun size are recycling their trash. this commission decided that Ridgecrest was not. Ridgecrest argued the point, but there is no appeal other than to the commission itself. to force the town to comply, the commission issued a finding that Ridgecrest was deficient and imposed a fine of $27,000...and then suspended the fine if Ridgecrest would adopt the policy the commission desired.
town meetings were held. citizens protested. but in the end, the town decided that it could not afford the legal bills to fight the commission, nor could it afford the fines...and these fines would be imposed in rapid succession (maybe monthly...i forgot the details)
California voters passed prop 13 years ago that set limits on the raising of proerty taxes for people who stay in their homes. But some time ago, another proposition was passed that allowed an “ad valorium” tax for specific types of “districts.” one of these “districts” is a waste collection “district.”
this proposition said that the governing authority could impose the tax if proper notice were given and if a majority of property owners did not write a letter and submit it within certain timelines and formats before the imposition of the tax. the official notice period is 45 days (if i remember correctly) so we all got notices but not enough of us wrote letters (and what good would it do anyway....its either the tax or the fines for non compliance...or endless legal bills for the city)
so, every residential propety, whether occupied or not (many properties are vacant, undergoing renovations, or whatever) must recycle. we must put certain items in the blue bin and other items in the grey bin (fine for failure to comply is $200) provided by....the local trash collection service...which just doubled its business as a result of this imposed recycling.
furthermore, the bill for the trash service is put onto the property owner (not the tenant, for example) and if not paid will be assessted to the bi-yearly tax bill with appropriate penalties and interest of course. the service is about $30 per month.
when you think of the EPA and their determination that CO2 is a pollutant, think of this recycling agency in California that has the ability to dictate increased fees to property owners without a vote, without appeal, without representation....
quasi-government agencies staffed with political appointees coupled with their idiotic theories will accumulate more and more power and will take more and more of our freedom and MONEY.
“I good with that, as long as they stay there.”
I not.
