The panic over the mutated H1N1 flu strain in the Ukraine has reached epic proportions. Over 450 people have died from the strain and nearly 2 million people have been infected:
FTO: The new statistics and numbers show that 41 659 people got infected since the day before yesterday. That means that almost 100 000 people got infected in two days. Today's statistics are not there yet but looking at what happened from the 2nd to the 3rd we see that 452 people have now died in the Ukraine because of this plague / H1N1 spreading there.
The total of number of infections grew to 1 978 951. That is almost 2million people now infected in the Ukraine. Read the whole thing >>

A Ukrainian friend of mine tells me that all this is a political panic before the elections.
I would suspect this more than a little. I think it is some raw numbers, mixed with some rumor and factoid. Here is a drier version of some of the same data:

Note that this is over the course of an entire month. Critical details, yes, about 2m have been infected with the flu. But here’s a more interesting point: “Since the outburst of the epidemic 119,580 people have been taken to hospitals and 95,538 discharged from hospitals.”
This means that of almost 120,000 people, only about 24,000 are still in the hospital. Four-fifths of those hospitalized have gone home.
My in-law has not become ill. No one traveling with her to Ukraine has become ill. I have not become ill after spending time with her. On Thanksgiving I asked her if she had heard anything about an epidemic in Ukraine. She had not. She is not a news junkie but she does have a degree in biochemistry. I assume her lack of knowledge of this means that none of her relatives in Ukraine have had any problem with this "epidemic".
These people must have consulted with Phil Jones and Michael E. Mann.....

Amazing how this disease spreads into each nation just before its election cycle.
Thanks for posting your Ukrainian friend’s comments. I do not believe this. Must be more to the story, must be statistics that are messed with for a larger purpose.
