Sarah Palin Flip-Flops on Obama Birth Certificate
US News and World Report ^ | 12/4/09 | Robert Schlesinger

Posted on 12/04/2009 10:02:44 AM PST by pissant

Sarah Palin scrambled away from the birther movement last night after giving them a wink and a nod on a conservative radio talk show yesterday. Posting on her Facebook page at 1:16am, Palin writes that, "at no point – not during the campaign, and not during recent interviews – have I asked the president to produce his birth certificate or suggested that he was not born in the United States." She tries to dismiss her birther flirtation as just an acknowledgment of voters' right to know: "Voters have every right to ask candidates for information if they so choose. I’ve pointed out that it was seemingly fair game during the 2008 election for many on the left to badger my doctor and lawyer for proof that Trig is in fact my child."

Well ... three problems with her explanation.

First, here's what she said when asked if she would raise the birth certificate issue in a presidential campaign (emphasis mine):

I think the public rightfully is still making it an issue. I don't have a problem with that. I don't know if I would have to bother to make it an issue, because I think that members of the electorate still want answers.

The key word there is "rightfully," which in this context means that it is right--as in correct or proper--to ask the question. She didn't say that the public has the right to ask, she said that it's right for the public to ask. That's an Alaska-sized difference.

Exactly...she should have emphasized that what’s good for the goose is good for the gander, i.e. since people demanded Trig’s BC, Obama’s BC clearly a reasonable request.

That isn't a very persuasive argument.

Did Sarah Palin ever show her son's birth certificate and their medical records? If I recall correctly, even though weasels like Andrew Sullivan demanded them, she did not.

So, if (as you say) what's good for the goose is good for the gander, why should Obama do what she was unwilling to do?

Very excellent summary!

Please feel free to ping me if you ever want to share new information, as you are clearly well-informed.

This part bears repeating:

"It would be different if there was a prosecutor in the US with the intestinal fortitude to convene a criminal grand jury investigation and subpoena Obama’s long form, vault copy Certificate of Live Birth and compare it to his internet posted short form COLB in an investigation for fraud or forgery but apparently no such prosecutor exists.

Why is it crackpottery? We just want proof, and then we will all drop it.

So you claim she was exactly right, and then say she was wrong. Which is it?

“No, I don’t think she really intended to directly compare the birth certificate folks to those who badgered her about Trig. But that is what she said.”

Your interpretation is incorrect, not even close.

So the public has the right to ask, but it isn't right to actually do it?”

Stop being lead by the nose by a left wing loon from US News, and use your own mind for a change will ya?
If I tell ya “You rightfully asked a question”, then later I say to you, “You have the right to ask that question”, does that then mean I have said, it's not right for you to ask the question?
How do you come by that?

These people must have teams of folks who’s sole job it is to sit around and try to find anything - anything at all - that they can use to poke at Sarah!! It’s almost comical! I see no issue here whatsoever - only that the MSM is trying desparately to bring her down. Just the other day I turned on GMA and they were making an issue of the fact that she (gasp) sometimes flies on an airplane paid for by her publisher. Somehow they felt that was an issue! They are trying to make more of her statement then there is - as they always do.

And that just proves what a poor public servant obozo is, to waste so many taxpayer dollars on litigation that could all be ended by him giving his consent to provide HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE. But no, instead he prefers to keep it a secret and waste valuable resources.

What a dumbass.

Obama’s long form birth certificate can be subpoenaed from the Hawaii Department of Health at any time by any prosecuting attorney (District Attorney or Attorney General) in the nation. Would you trust a document that Obama himself provided?
Its best that he have no action in releasing a vital record.

I agree.

Sean and Rush refuse to discuss the issue for a very distinct reason.

They are probably all under threats from Raila Odinga's favorite cousin if they should ever touch the issue.

Glenn Beck is also probably under threat.

The COLB is one of the most powerful issues that could immediately remove him from office.

I know that the nasty little narcissist lies pathologically, which is why I believe that he is a tremendous fraud as well.

“Which also means that no person born to a mother through artificial insemination by an anonymous donor can ever be President.”

That is an interesting question, surely not contemplated by the founders. I would say though, that while I am happy for you that you were able to have a child in this manner, we are not going to change over two hundred years of history for this unusual circumstance.

Although, I think a case could be made for that view.

“I defer to the constitutional scholars who also debate this subject.”

Why? Are they smarter than you? I don't think they are any smarter.

If you haven't seen this, you may find it interesting.

Here is what she said:
Voters have every right to ask candidates for information if they so choose. I’ve pointed out that it was seemingly fair game during the 2008 election for many on the left to badger my doctor and lawyer for proof that Trig is in fact my child. Conspiracy-minded reporters and voters had a right to ask... which they have repeatedly. But at no point – not during the campaign, and not during recent interviews – have I asked the president to produce his birth certificate or suggested that he was not born in the United States.
She clearly has no interest in asking the President about his birth certificate, and when reflecting about the subject, relates it to being hounded about Trig.

This was after all her considered response, written in her own time, not a rushed response to a question.

But I'm still convinced she doesn't really compare them in magnitude, just in kind.

“She clearly has no interest in the birth certificate question, but she also clearly doesn’t want to dismiss the “birth certificate questioners” out of hand, as so many of them are her strongest supporters.”

Agree

Queue the Romney and Huckaphony fans...3, 2, 1, go

Oh never mind, I see they are already on the thread.

I don't see a flip flop at all. She said people have a right to question his credentials, and they do. I'm not jumping on the Berther band wagon myself just yet, and I agree with Palins first comments that berthers do have that right. If today she said they don't have a right , then that is a flip flop.

Yes.

You recall wrongly.
Plus she confirmed in her Facwebook post last night that she DID in fact produce the birth certificate, after the bottom feeding media laid siege to her doctor and her lawyers, shrilling demanding that she show her son's birth certificate.
And all for what? Because some lunatic had posted that she was not the mother to her own baby, at Daily Kos.

“But we just had to have hearings on that matter for John McCain. Why not for Obama?
Because the legal status of the Panama Canal Zone is a bit fuzzy, but the legal status of Hawaii is not. Duh.”

Usually when someone gets hired for a high level government position they get a background check and have to turn in documents about their past. DUH!

Could you point in the direction of when/where they could be found, and to whom they were shown?

I did a search before I posted and did not find them, just requests from various “reporters”.
