Sarah Palin scrambled away from the birther movement last night after giving them a wink and a nod on a conservative radio talk show yesterday. Posting on her Facebook page at 1:16am, Palin writes that, "at no point not during the campaign, and not during recent interviews have I asked the president to produce his birth certificate or suggested that he was not born in the United States." She tries to dismiss her birther flirtation as just an acknowledgment of voters' right to know: "Voters have every right to ask candidates for information if they so choose. Ive pointed out that it was seemingly fair game during the 2008 election for many on the left to badger my doctor and lawyer for proof that Trig is in fact my child."
Well ... three problems with her explanation.
First, here's what she said when asked if she would raise the birth certificate issue in a presidential campaign (emphasis mine):
I think the public rightfully is still making it an issue. I don't have a problem with that. I don't know if I would have to bother to make it an issue, because I think that members of the electorate still want answers.
The key word there is "rightfully," which in this context means that it is right--as in correct or proper--to ask the question. She didn't say that the public has the right to ask, she said that it's right for the public to ask. That's an Alaska-sized difference.

While I appreciate your distinction between know and believe, your first statement is also not a provable fact, because it relies on a legal interpretation of article II which is in dispute.
IN short form, you are arguing that no person born on U.S. soil to a U.S. mother can be President, unless they can prove that their father, whoever he might be, was a citizen (implied is “at some point”, was it “at conception” or “at birth” I don’t know).
Which also means that no person born to a mother through artificial insemination by an anonymous donor can ever be President.
I believe that to be an incorrect reading of the constitution, but I defer to the constitutional scholars who also debate this subject.
Posts like that just make FReepers look un-serious.
... is it RIGHT to ask such a question?
You ought to know by now that rolling in every bit of anti-Palin excrement you come across makes you smell un-conservative...
I was trying to provide an analogy that might illustrate the principle that there are some questions that you have a RIGHT to ask, but that you should NOT ask.
Sarah Palin gave an example, citing the questions she was asked, asking her to prove trig was her son. Sure, they had the RIGHT to ask her, but the question was not "right".
I was just trying to come up with other examples that might clearly illustrate the point. It's not easy though, because almost EVERY question asked will have some supporters.
Sarah Palin seems to equate people asking about the birth certificate to left-wingers asking her to prove trig was her son. That's her words, not mine:
Voters have every right to ask candidates for information if they so choose. Ive pointed out that it was seemingly fair game during the 2008 election for many on the left to badger my doctor and lawyer for proof that Trig is in fact my child. Conspiracy-minded reporters and voters had a right to ask... which they have repeatedly. But at no point not during the campaign, and not during recent interviews have I asked the president to produce his birth certificate or suggested that he was not born in the United States.
I believe it is possible Obama machine is involved in the death of Lt. Quarles Harris Jr
“If Raila Odinga’s number one cousin has nothing to hide, then why does he spend nearly 2 million on a legal defense team?”
Thus far there have been 88 eligibility lawsuits filed in various state, federal, and appeals courts and at the US Supreme Court. The legal scorecard is Obama 60 adjudications in his favor in original jurisdiction courts; 18 Obama wins in Appeals court decisions and 10 wins in US Supreme Court rulings.
Plaintiffs opposing Obama’s eligibility have not yet won a case. There are two original jurisdiction cases pending and there are 5 appeals court decisions pending. There are no cases pending before the US Supreme Court at this time.
I’m sure that Raul Odigna’s number one cousin’s legal advisors have told him to just let the legal system play out in all these civil suit challenges.
It would be different if there was a prosecutor in the US with the intestinal fortitude to convene a criminal grand jury investigation and subpoena Obama’s long form, vault copy Certificate of Live Birth and compare it to his internet posted short form COLB in an investigation for fraud or forgery but apparently no such prosecutor exists.
He won't be fired of course.
But don;t worry. US News is n deep financial straits. They used to come out once a week. today, it;s once a month, and they are still bleeding money. Same guy that owns the New York Daily news, owns US news as well.
Personally, I don't think US News will be around for too long. Turning themselves into the PDS jihadists is not going to do their fast shrinking circulation any good either.
Oh, but for the record, I don’t think she REALLY meant to equate those; I think she was just trying to explain her comments from the night before, and may have overshot in the other direction.
She clearly has no interest in the birth certificate question, but she also clearly doesn’t want to dismiss the “birth certificate questioners” out of hand, as so many of them are her strongest supporters.
I agree.
Fact is, she said both...Plus, she said she has not been involved in the asking...Plus, she implied what's good for the goose is good for the gander...
Smart Lady...She'll be a good President...

Uncle Remus Bump. FaceBook has been good for her. He's talking about how much he needs to "get out of Washington". Her tour is overshadowing him, and she's constantly stealing his thunder. She doesn't talk about herself, she talks about America!
No, I don’t think she really intended to directly compare the birth certificate folks to those who badgered her about Trig. But that is what she said. I think she has no interest in the birth certificate question, but doesn’t want to dismiss those who do, since they are her avid supporters.
I don't think she is afraid of a scrap. The MSM will try to portray her as Ron Paul in a dress--who will latch on to any wingnut conspiracy that comes down the pike
As she has stated before, she is only one voice. IMO this is perfectly consistent with the Tea Pary-We Ain't-Looking-for-a-Political-Messiah-We're-Taking-Back-the Country-Ourselves movement...
No mistake.
She was exactly right in what she said on that interview.
“other than to acknowledge their right to ask the question; not that they are RIGHT to ask the question”
If you have the right to ask any question, you are right to ask that question. Whether the questins asked lead to 0bozo getting his mraching orders or not, is up to the corts of this country.
Note to self: make sure to call Robert Schessinger at US News next time I have a question on standard English usage. Sheesh! Who died & made him Sarah Palin’s editor?
“its been the American taxpayer who provides the money for Obamas defense through the use of US Justice Departments lawyers.”
********
And that just proves what a poor public servant obozo is, to waste so many taxpayer dollars on litigation that could all be ended by him giving his consent to provide HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE. But no, instead he prefers to keep it a secret and waste valuable resources.
What a dumbass.
